Title: Wiring help!
Post by: loonie midget on 05 June 2005, 14:02
Hi all.
Can anyone tell me where there is a permanent 12v supply other than the battery on my mk3 Golf deisel.  Im wiring an alarm in but its far to sensitive, and this is what ive been a advised to do from the instruction book.
Cheers all!

sue all the loom you require can be located at the ignition harness... if u take of the trim round your steering wheel you will see 4-5 heavy ampage single core wires these supply the ignition etc... there u will find a 12v perm a switch live that stayslive through crank and an imobilisation circuit if u require that aswell,.,

hope that helps

Thanx for the quick reply.  Unfortunatly theres not enough wire to go back into the steering wiring.. its gotta be under the bonet unfortunatly.  Sorry to be a pain in the ar*e. lol

to be honest if its all under bonnet its gotta be the battery really... simply due to the fact if u pick it up elsewhere you may pull voltage from a source where its required, why do u not want to take it off the battery??? u concerned itl look cluttered?

Its on the battery now, but the alarms very sensitive, so the books advised me to take the connection to somewhere else.. further away from the battery.  Do you think the headlights would be sufficiant? As they are permanent live.  But do you know which colour is the live wire?

i dont really understand what u mean when u say the alarm is sensitive... all 12v sources in the car should give the same current as the battery, i wouldnt pull current as highlighted from a headlight or other source as u may find it affect the running of that item.

if it has to goto a non battery source lengthen the wire and runit into the car, it shouldnbt have to be to long and the benefit of internal wiring means its harder for the theif to cut it and gain entry to the car, with an underbonnet system the can force the bonnet and cut the feeds then break in and theyr away..

Hiya again, i'll try to explain better.  The sensor alarm is going off soon as a motorbike or noisy-ish car goes past, ive adjusted the sensor to minimum but its still going off.  So in the troubleshooting its says "Increase trigger sensitivity by relocating the RED wire to an alternative 12v further from the battery."
Think the best bet is do what you said, extend the wire into the car.  Thanx for all your help hunny, its well appreciated.
