Title: Going to Disney Florida
Post by: VR6_Wherry on 27 April 2012, 10:27
Hi Guys,

Going to Disney Florida in 3 weeks for 18 days. I've been to America before, but not Florida and i'v been to Disney Paris so have a little idea of what it's like! Only little!

Has anyone else been? What would your tips be?

We are staying on International drive, what would your travel tips be? (Not hiring a car) I was thinking of maybe taking the free shuttle to Sea World and then getting on the Local bus to right to the Ticket and Transportation are.

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Best holiday you will ever have (age depending). All of the theme parks are intense. Universal studios is an awesome place. Busch gardens has to be the best theme park in the world.

Go to an Ihop if you didn't go before!

I'm not normally a fan of mixing sweet and savoury...but at the Ihop I had bacon and raspberry's on this pile of pancakes taller than my face covered in maple syrup. I thought I was going to slip into a comma. It was too good

used to go out to the west coast area all the time, just below Sarasota

if you can get yourself out there for a day or two... its quality downtime from the busy, touristy and (imo) patronising parks...

the beaches are glorious and there is plenty to see and do in the reserves and the like

gave up going to the parks and actually discovered Florida... remarkable place

That does look awesome and we were going to do that. Though we are going to hit Australia for 6 months and then spend some time in America too! Hopefully see all that and what America really has to offer, not just fat people and takeaways!

So many places to see, so little time!

I drove a hire car from Orlando to Busch Gardens, but I ended up getting lost around some real slum area of Tampa.

Was not the most fun hour of my life!

Although Busch Gardens is immense. I love it. Went there twice in the time we went. If your going there, is worth going to clearwater beach too.

Depending on where you are on international drive you have several options.

They have a bus service where you can get a weekly pass or a book of tickets which works out cheaper and more frequent than some of the shuttle services.

Universal studio's is usually walking distance on international drive, for me about 20-25min walk, found it sometimes quicker than the bus plus the additional walk from the station.

Problem with disney is, they use to do fireworks every night but no longer, when they have the late shows for the fireworks you won't be able to use the public transport due to the hours they finish, in this case hiring a cab or a car  is more suitable. Disney itself is a bit off the main stretch so using a cab or dedicated shuttle service is better.

Top and bottom of international drive you have outlets and also another mall near the top, I love fishing and going to sea bass pro in the mall!

With most parks you can buy a week or longer pass for them which I recommend, I was out for two weeks and got  pass for two weeks for all the parks, not a bad price either, just don't buy knock off tickets get them either in the hotel or at the park as the tickets work in par with your fingerprint.

Parks are brilliant and plenty of things to do, I went down miami and kennedy, if you do a full day at kenedy space station get a cab to and from if you have no hire car, this is due to the shuttle gets in a bit late and leaves a bit earlier from when it closes, if you do the full package there you will require the full day, I did the full package, dined with the mr astronaught.

There's so much to do, bush gardens, miami, kenedy, universal, the two aqua parks (one by seaworld and wet&wild is on internaional drive and easily walkable), seaworld, etc....

There's a small little park with go karts at the top of international drive close to the outlets as well, okay for cheap fun and arcade, also on the way to universal if you walk up you will see a wind tunnel if you fancy floating around in that giant fan

There's just so much, its better if you go with someone who's been before, helps to break things down and navigate. My mrs has been there more times than hot dinners.

Eating there's plenty of places, I mainly went golden coral and pondarosa. There's bostons red lobster as well on international drive and the list goes on.

if you dont go to Busch Gardens you fail at going to Florida

though I must say I've been to Florida many times when I was younger and Busch Gardens was always well above the other parks for the quality of the rides, but the last time I went (almost 8 years ago now :( ) the Universal Studios Island of Adventure park was just above Busch Gardens for me. This could however be because it was all new and I'd never done it before.

Also dont forget the Disney water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, both are awesome

Don't forget a day on Daytona Beach. Driving up and down in a corvette!

Coco Beach on other coast is very nice too.

Why wouldn't you hire a car? There is so much to see that public transport won't cater for.

I have been twice and now planning my third time now, it was the best holiday I have had so far. We stayed in villas (they where like cribs!!!) and hired a car both times.

Definatley hire a car, there is so much more to see than where they will take you!!

I hired a car and got caught doing 65mph in a 45mph. A police car, went past me on the other side of the road, spun round and pulled me over. He was going mental at me. Not sure why, seeing as it was a massive 3 lane road, no cars on it and a nice sunny day!

I had to go to court though on my last day. Paid a fee of $60 dollars then had to wait for 3 hours with other minor offence people in a big courtroom, then stand in front of a judge who was also not happy..ending up fining me another $220!!

So moral of the story..don't speed over there
