Hi Folks,

Bought my first Golf in December 2004 - a 1989 MK2 GTi 16v with rear spoiler and BBS with gold centres (very bling!). Have a few questions.
1. what's the service schedule? So far have been given various answers, including every 6000 and every 10,000 miles.
2. How far could I lower a 16 valver without altering the bodywork? I'm running it on 15" BBS.
3. How do I modify the ugly rear wiper so it lays flat?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

1. I do my 16 valve about avery 6000 miles and timing belt every 50000 might be a bit often but hey might as well treat the old girl right she's knocking on a bit now! I know a guy who did a service every 3000 miles!

2. Mine is dropped 56mm on coilovers and it doesn't catch unless your doing full lock U turns etc so I would say 40mm and you'll have loads of room don't buy cheap springs though!

Sorry to cut in, but i was thinking of getting the punto rear wiper! Is that from mk1 fiat punto 1994 - 1999? and how much are they?

Got a lay flat wiper on mine, Why does everyone recommend a punto wiper? the guide does not say you need it and mines the standard dub motor and wiper arm as far as i know?

It just looks better, it all incased if you know what i mean and it's all plastic so it will not flake and rust like mine has!

I am just unsure if it's off the punto MK1 or Mk2? maybe they are the same, anyone know?????

Thanks for your advice - the instructions on the web link seem pretty good and shall try the wiper mod at the weekend. Will let you know how I get along. Have heard the rear wiper from a MK2 Seat Ibiza fits well, but what year is a MK2 Ibiza??? My 16 valver is due a service in July and I'm thinking of using my local main dealer - they charge £160 all in for a full service - not bad for a main dealer. Am also thinking of changing the rear lenses, front indicators and side repeaters to smoked variety as I think they look better on a dark Golf. Anyone done that and how didi it go?

i'd go for smoked indicators on a dark car.....in fact ...i did!!!

i wouldn't take your car to a main dealer, try to find a local specialist who knows what he's talking about, you'll get alot more for your money!!

not sure what rear wiper, i had a punto one for a while but you have to drill out the hole to mount it and as its conical its a bit tricky to get it right. people use other wipers as the standard mk2 one doesn't sit perfectly flat unless its on the rubber or unless you bend it. polo coupe ones do the job and look factory.
