Title: Hello to all - great forum
Post by: MrF16vmk3 on 05 June 2005, 00:50
Had my mk3 i6v for about six weeks now, what a car! previous golfs mk2 1.6cl and mk3 1.8cl both good cars but this thing makes driving addictive. So far its indicated 145mph and last night GPS'ed it at 137 when it was showing 143. All this on standard breathing and exhaust - is this normal for this model? it's on a P plate, were the later ones faster or are they all like this? Advice on what exhaust/induction kit combinations work well would be appreciated (I've already got them on order - just hoping I've made the right choice!)

Welcome to the forum mate.

I have had 125 on the clock on my mk3 16v, and was doing just over 5k on the revs, so I imagine that 143 on the clocks is easily attainable, I have gps'd my speedo and found it to ber 3mph over at 85mph.

I have a magnex twin dtm on my car, and no induction kit but I would suggest going for a k&n.

Hope you enjoy the forum.

Paul

The track is called the M55 and at certain times you can (almost) guarantee it will be empty! The car is quick to about 115/120 but then slows and it takes about a minute and two miles to get the last 20mph - so you do need lots of road. hoping that air filter and exhaust will help the mid-range acceleration and help me get there quicker!

have you gone for an enclosed kit? I've just got a panel filter with improved cold feed on my 8v as i've only ever had bad experience with open cone filters (no more power ,loads more fuel)

Gibby - well done the reds - unbelievable night - best ever final?

Monkeyalan - gone for a K&N 57i kit but did think about panel filter and a big cold air feed from right side below bumper where the temp sensor is - if I dont like the K&N might try that next.

The speed is real - you just need a quiet empty motorway - best thing about Blackpool is the way out!

Love this car - only down side so far is 26mpg average over first 1500miles - maybe I'll calm down soon if the novelty wears off (but I hope not).

Neutral on footy meself and at half-time was thinking chelski would be doin better than this - but I've never seen a team come back like that - I don't think I'll ever forget it! Atmosphere in blackpool nightclubs afterwards was fantastic. Had a couple of mates who went to Anfield to watch it - wish I'd joined them now!

I thought it would have been a damage limitation exercise in the second half so couldn't believe what happened, Italian teams just dont concede three goals !  Wish I'd gone to Istanbul now.  I heard some stories of people in the stadium leaving at half time, how gutted must they have been, I never have and never will leave a game I go to see early for that very reason.
