Nice one just need some LED's on the rear.
Title: Re: From MKIV to MKVI
Post by: dubber36 on 26 April 2012, 12:46
Private plate will look spot on, but a short prefix one, not a new style one that looks like a normal number to everyone else.

I'd change the radio to a RCD510 and while your at it, you might as well fit bluetooth.

I'm sure we'll help you spend your money here.

Haha thanks guys!

Yeah I'm sure you'll manage to help me splash out on it! Been thinking about the audio and getting it changed, could possibly be the 1st thing I do!

Also the closest plate I can get to what I want which something along the lines of Jaker (nickname)

I can get J44 KKR for £250?

What your lot opinions on this? Could someone photoshop onto a car to preview? As the one on the website won't show me :(

Thanks!!
Title: Re: From MKIV to MKVI
Post by: PenguinGTI on 26 April 2012, 15:48
J44 KER isn't too bad to be honest if "Jaker" is what you're after.

The car looks great. Tornado Red is definitely my favourite colour on the Mk6 GTI's and the Monza Shadows look good too. A thumbs up from me.

If you're looking for mods then a remap would be the first on my own list. That having been said, I did enjoy the GTI when it was "only" 210bhp so it's not crucial that you go for a remap.

As for external mods, black badges would look good on a Tornado Red car but it depends what you want the image of the car to be. I consider black badges to be a bit more sporty and a bit less classy than the chrome. I ended up removing the read GTI badge and swapping the front for a Red one.

The rear LED's are probably the one thing on my own car I'd have considered changing previously. I say previously only because, now that more and more cars have LED's, I actually prefer being a bit "old school" with the standard rear lamps.

Inside the other folks on here will keep you right with the RCD/RNS options and the Bluetooth. I have neither on my own car (just the standard RCD310 - which is good enough for me) so I can't really advise either way.

But anyway, enough rambling from me. Congratulations on the purchase and many happy miles motoring

Not a bad price really i paid about £800 for my plate  :lipsrsealed:  but had to as it turned up with LN12ZSY which oddly is my partners name  i just didnt fancy driving around with her name on my car haha
Title: Re: From MKIV to MKVI
Post by: JakerGTi on 26 April 2012, 19:08
Yeah Penguin I'm definitely thinking about the black badges as the car has sort of a red/black theme so i think this would just set it off nicely! as i quite like the sporty look aswell

Still considering this plate also! just really trying to convince myself but i do believe that is the closest i will get to what i want!

Thanks for comments and advice guys, buzzing to pick it up tomorrow and look forward to sharing my progress with you legends!

Have you got an Xbox and Forza Motorsport? If so make one and out it on a red GTI.

I'f you don't let me know and I'll make one and post it up for you, I did it for mine when I bought a plate.

^^^^ i didn't know you could do that, i tried that before and  it was the front or rear it wouldn't let me paint where the number plate was but im not that good at stuff like that so it was proberly me. Can you post a pic as it would be nice to see it?
Title: Re: From MKIV to MKVI
Post by: PenguinGTI on 27 April 2012, 12:50
Forza is a great place to try out mods if you don't have photoshop (or the skills to use photoshop). It would have been the front you'd have had difficulty with as it won't let you position the plate correctly at the front of the Mk6 GTI.

Heck you could always try out a remap on Forza.  Just whack the power up to around 255-260 and see how you like it.

Unfortunately you can't black your badges out though

If it has bluetooth it would have been a retrofit as you don't have the shark fin on the roof and it wasn't standard in 2010 cars like mine, if it does have it then you'll be impressed with the functionality with an RCD510.

I thought the shark fin was for GPS. I've seen loads of cars with factory bluetooth without them.

To see if your car has it, press the > button on the right hand side of the steering wheel to scroll through the menus. You should have, Trip computer etc - Audio display - Vehicle Set Up - (and if it's fitted) Bluetooth.

I also see you don't have the levels of OCD that many of us have , yet. If you use the volume controls on the steering wheel, you can keep the on-off-volume button facing the right way up.

Just from my own experience, I'd get any black wheels painted Satin Black rather than Gloss. Gloss looks great when they're clean but 10 mins on the road and the brake dust will have ruined the shine. My Satin Black wheels looked good clean and honestly didn't look any worse after 2 weeks without a wash.
