Title: Gearbox clonk
Post by: km on 25 April 2012, 16:12
Recently, car's been clonking when I accelerate and also when my foot comes off the throttle.

Thought this would have been an engine mount but there doesn't appear to be much movement when I rev it.

And I've had new dogbone bushes and bolts a few months ago.

I've also noticed that when the car's rolling and I dip the clutch in, and move my gear stick from 2nd to 3rd and vice versa, the same clonking exists.

What could this be? I have adjusted my cables recently, it goes into gears fine.

Broken / worn bushes in the dogbone mount (Gearbox mount)  :undecided:

my friend has this. to me it looks and sounds like the gearbox tower housing. manually change gear by the tower, give it a bit of force, it should sound similar to the noise when driving.

dont ask me what the solution is though i couldnt figure it out!

checked dogbone mount, its all tight.

changed passenger engine mount with a standard one yesterday..

clonk disappeared when doing higher speeds but not low speeds, eg 40+ mph.

took my wheel off to check things out today, put it back on, now the clonk has pretty much disappeared.
