Well, after an 11 week wait (feels like a lifetime!) I've just had the confirmation from the dealer that my ED35 has now been built and is on the way to Emden for shipping to the UK. I must admit, the thought that my car actually now exists is pretty darned good :laugh: :laugh:.
One question for you guys though - I have an Iphone which I want to connect through the MDI. Is the cable for this supplied as standard with the car or will I have to buy one separately.
Thanks very much guys

Good news!
Yeah the cable is supplied :smiley:

Cable supplied with car (should also get a usb one too) only quirk I have on my 4s is when it's connected to the Bluetooth for hands free I have to play the music via Bluetooth (but oddly switch between albums etc using the midi) this of course may be due to be being a complete f&ck wit
You won't be disappointed with the car

Can't wait to see the photos.... :smiley:

Must admit I havent even plugged my iPhone via the MDI as I have an iPod too. However the Bluetooth audio works really well and I also use a Prat Nav app on my iPhone via the Bluetooth so its great that it just works really easily.

Believe me, I can't wait to take 'em! :smiley:

Great News!
Now all you have to do is wait another 2wks or so for it to leave Emden :sad:
And then shipping time 5-7days, then at uk docks for 3-4days and then once transporter picks it up it another few days before it reaches the dealer, then the last 5day(maybe less) before picking her up....Oh the joys! I remember it foundly :grin:
But she'll be worth it pal! :wink:

Sounds good....look forward to the photos
The iPhone works well through Bluetooth for short journeys as its easy to jump in the car and play a tune without plugging it in. On longer journeys I use the Midi interface and plug it in with the cable supplied. This has two advantages, you can use the switches on the steering wheel to change track and it charges the phone. The passenger can also choose a track using the controls.....
So get you newcar playlist sorted for when it arrives!

See I just whack an external drive or memory stick into the USB cable, can't be bothered plugging things in and out!! (ooh err!)
BTW it's customary to buy all Mk6 forum frequenters a beer, just like if you were down the pub when you hear of your new baby's arrival into this world!
Mines a Guinness! Thanks

I do the same. I've got a little USB stick http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/22857469/SanDisk-Cruzer-Fit-16GB-USB-Flash-Drive-including-Secure-Access/Product.html absolutely tiny, works well and not a bad price at all

I have a 120gb ipod in the car, never comes out unless i want to update it with new music. I only plug my phone in if it needs charging on the way somewhere.

I tend to just convert my songs to MP3 and put it all on the same CD...can't be arsed to constantly plug things in and out...

Trust me, USB is far easier :wink:

I like my playlists on the iPhone and i have my music in one place. And you don't need to plug and play with Bluetooth. But you can plug it in if you want to charge it. Works for me....
-
I think i read somewhere that streaming music via bluetooth lower's the sound quality, ive not tested it tho.

How do you set up playlists on a usb stick ? Folders i suppose ? seems like a lot of hassle compared to an ipod :grin:

I don't use playlists so I couldn't tell you but I'd say dragging and dropping folders of music over is a lot less hassle than using iTunes, but I've never been a fan of that anyway. A 16gb USB stick costs ~£20, how much does a 16gb Nano cost? or Touch? :grin:
-
I've set up several playlists on a USB stick and (If I'm doing it correctly!) they're a PITA actually, if I switch my car off whilst listening, next time I switch on, the head unit will play the first song (alphabetically) in the first folder in the 'music' folder.... There's only a certain amount of times I can listen to Adele :rolleyes:... Then I have to browse to the bl00dy playlists again and find the one I was previously listening to....
I've since just made new folders and named them something like 'Various rock'... 'Various smooth'....'Various etc etc....and just dragged the songs/tunes into the folders, they probably appear in their respective 'album' folder as well, but with a 32G USB stick there's plenty of room there!
Every now n then I'll plug the stick into my PC and update/renew the 'Various.....' folders much the same as I'd update the playlists....

I have 120gb ipod lol got it long time ago so not sure what it cost, no hassle in using itunes really plug it in tick the playlist you want, sync & done.
I guess what ever works for you is good :)
Mine has my entire digital music collection on there, i have designed my play list with the car in mind or it would take you for ever even with normal playlists.

I just copy the My Music folder on my windows PC, that uses Media Player Playlists stashed in a folder called (steady yourself now) "Playlists". Works fine, doesn't revert to the top of the list when I start the car either.
These are my notes on all things USB HD:
RCD510 External USB HDD Information
Max Drive Capacity / Size: 500gb
Drive Format: FAT32 Only! (need special software to format this size as FAT32)
Max Bit Rate: 320kbps
Variable bit Rate: Supported but no remaining track time displayed
Music Directory:
Music\Oasis\Dig Out Your Soul\(.mp3 music files)
Music\Guns N' Roses\Greatest Hits\(.ogg music files)
Music\UB40\The Very Best of UB40 1980-2000\(.mp3 music files)
Playlists.
Create .pls files and store them in the usb drives root directory.
Use Browse-Top from the players menu whenever you need them.
Note: Windows Media Playlists also work.
[playlist]
File1=\Music\Guns N' Roses\Greatest Hits\01-Welcome To The Jungle.ogg
Title1=Greatest Hits - 1/14 - Welcome To The Jungle
Length1=271
File2=\Music\Guns N' Roses\Greatest Hits\02-Sweet Child O' Mine.ogg
Title2=Greatest Hits - 2/14 - Sweet Child O' Mine
Length2=355
NumberOfEntries=2
Version=2
Note: that song filenames start with \
Note: Having .exe files on the root can cause issues with the drive being recognised!

The quality of the sound over bluetooth sounds the same to me as the MDI interface. With the iphone I make up a playlist without plugging in my iphone to a computer = you can make up a playlist on the iphone without syncing it with itunes. Bluetooth for short journeys and MIDI for long journeys. Works very well...
