Title: golf judders when put into reverse and wheels cranked

so anyone any ideas? I get a judder which seems to be coming from the wheel...not always though...no idea what it could be outer cv joint and boot (gaitor) look intact...no leaks...what could this be....the golf is an automatic...N reg 1,8 8v...yay!

though it could of been the gear box but im not sure with a auto... if its the wheels it in all gears and turning corners.

mine does it in reverse i just put it down to the gear box or clutch.

There is nothing different in an auto box to manual to cause this really,  auto has a normal diff so there is no reason why it would be the gearbox, and i cant see anything in there causing it in reverse only.   Sounds like you got it stuck in 4WD  :grin: :grin:   Mine used to do this when my tyres were scrubbing on full lock,  are you riding low?

Nah the car is stock standard, and the tyres are R14's. No one has lowered this baby. It does not have any effect on driving. Will get someone else to crank the wheels and take a look see what is going on from outside. If it was the power steering pump wouldn't it do this when the wheels were cranked turning in gear?

I think it may be the gearbox.:)Not enough fluid?

If the fluid in the box is low, the torque converter would most likely slip and it would be harsh in and out of 1st, and jumpy.  As its only in reverse, and at full lock i really cant see it being the box,  possibly the diff at worst?
