Title: Vauxhell Astra 1.6 AUTO esates
Post by: Bellend on 23 April 2012, 22:49
What they like?

What are the 1.6 16vs like? Mate's bought one that he liked with 52k on the clock. Mint and ran well til the journey home when the alternator stopped working and he broke down.

Now, other then that, he's wondering whether to keep it or get his money back as it is only an alternator and they have been good at straight away towing it back, getting it done and letting him decide.

Are the 1.6 16vs good? What bout the auto boxes? Cheers.

Absolutely awful, the auto box is easily the worst I've ever used in my life.  I had the unfortunate torture of owning an automatic Astra for a year.  Apart from it nearly killing me twice due to lack of power in gear, I ended up literally beating the crap out of it whilst crawling up a hill with a huge queue of traffic behind me.

What age of Astra Estate?

My parents had a 1.4i Astra Estate (L reg). It was alright as a car but driving position was lousy (pedals not in line with seat), no feedback through steering, wiring looms to central locking on back doors went. The 1.4i engine had 80bhp ish which was ok if the car was empty but struggled with a load.
It was a manual gearbox though so you could deal with it ok. Auto box.... good luck

Cheers lads.

Alternator promptly fixed, next day I.e today, come out of a tunnel in London and a van driver promptly went at an angle across the front of it, smashed the bumper and put the rad thru.

Then drove off.

Absolutely gutted for him! Gas worse luck then me!
