Right then, i've been having major issues with creaking doors, i thought i'd sorted it at one point by claying and sealing the apateur (sp) but as it turns out it was only a temporary fix :angry: So the car went in on saturday for Service, cruise fitting, door seals and the damn clunk coming from the off side rear qtr! They've told me it needs booking in for a whole day to have ALL the door seals replaced! :shocked: internal and external, now in on one hand i'm pleased that even though the car is 2 years old they are still willing to do this, on the other hand i'm a bit nervous as to what is required for this?
It's being done regardless because the creaks are unbearable to me, my wife and 90% of other people that get in the car but can someone tell me whats involved to replace these seals? Particularly the external ones.

i used to have this when reversing up an uneven drive. it is down the flex in the chassis and the door seals rubbing against each other.
this used to be a huge problem with eos's so VW actually have a bottle of something (lube type stuff) that they apply to the seals..... it cured mine :smiley:

I've had creaks and groans from the door seals in every car I've had in the last few years (though my current car seems ok!), and the only thing that sorted it for me was "Gummi pfledge". A quick application of this stuff every few months and no more creaks.

Available on ebay for a few quid.
It's the felt-like material on the top of the door frame rubbing against the metal of the door opening that causes it.

I wonder how long it will be before the tight, creaky seals, start wearing the thinly applied paint away.

My wife used to have an Eos and I used the water sealant (lube) to keep it water tight and this also made a huge difference to the squeaking made by the rubbers when they dried out. Used it once every six months, worth a try.

I actually bought some of that and made absolutley no difference, infact probably made it worse tbh. :undecided:
@Gilly, it's called Krytox, they put some on on saturday to see if it helps till they replace the seals.......
It didn't :angry: my drivers door hinge had also become loose but they've tightened that up so it's not a problem.
Good news is cruise control is cool, bad news is it's about 4-5 mpg worse with it on. :huh:

That's because it can't antisipate hills, either to "roll" down, or gain a bit of momentum under light load in order to pull up the other side. It will only save you fuel by keeping your speed down on an empty motorway, where it may otherwise creep up.

Really? I find that the car always maintains speed whether its going uphill or downhill. If I'm on on upward incline, I can feel the car giving it more throttle, so as to maintain speed on the hill. Likewise, I can feel the throttle pulling back when going downhill.
Maybe you would anticipate these things quicker yourself though, or maybe would be less inclined to keep the speed up when going uphill.

Exactly my point. When driving ecconomically you would roll down hill on a very light throttle, where cruise control would be holding you back. Towards the bottom of the hill, you would build up a bit of speed to carry you up the other side, whereas cruise would not know you were about to climb until it started doing it. Ecconomy driving is all about antisipation and conservation of momentum (think of riding a bike). Cruise control can never compute that.

I had creaking doors and found out it wasn't the door seals but the locking mechanism. Spraying some silicon works. So does polishing the metal door hook. On my car the metal door hook was creaking against the plastic on the locking mechanism. I still do use gummi pflege to keep the rubber from drying out.

Let me know if they find out what the clunk is ad I have always thought mine had one

i pflege stift'd my car and white lithe greased all the hinges and locks and to be honest its been fine since
that pflege stift stuff makes a right smarmy mess on the paint and glass though :angry:
something i have noticed (and pointed out to snoopy) is that ALL golf 5door middle door seals (attached to rear door - front door seals onto it) rub against the front drivers door and it eventually splits the rubber seal. I'm just waiting for mine to be totally split and i will get it replace on the warranty.
every golf mk6 I've seen has this problem, its a poor design.
also why the hell does it take hours/days for the water to drain out of the doors after you wash the car? is a nightmare. the window and door seals on these things a PITA
regarding removing the seals and your concerns about whats involved i wouldn't worry. they just pull out so don't worry they won't be ripping your car apart! :wink:

The R i drove on saturday had creaking seals too, not quite to the extremes of mine but that would support what you say, shame. :sad:
