Has anyone heard of "Plastidip" before?

I might see if I can get any and try it out!

I'm doing my badges right now with plastidip. I'll post some pics when I'm done. :)

Nice, thanks, will be really interested to know what you think.
I'm also considering doing my front splitter with it if the badges turn out well.

I've tried Plastidip on my badges. It's easy to work with. Just remember to mask a lot bigger then I did. The overspray is removable but it takes some time. It leaves a rough matt finish. Definitely not as nice as real paint but it's ok. You get to see how it looks on the car and it is easy to remove. Overall a nice product and fun to play with but it has it's limits.
Here are some pictures. I like how the front turned out with the black VW badge. It blends nicely with the black grille.
The rear though looks like poo. Doesn't look good at all to me. The huge black "hole" in the rear and the black GTI badge looks odd. I'll leave the front like it is and leave the GTI badge in chrome in the rear. Maybe that's better.

There's a member on another forum that I use that did his wheels for winter protection with something similar. When springtime came, he just peeled it off.

I like it! Looks really good, even the rear badge in my opinion. I think you could get rid of the rough texture by applying it slightly differently... not sure if you need to be closer/further away but I've read it's possible to get a very smooth finish. You can also get a clear coat which is applied in the same way to add shine and turn it into a gloss black, maybe that would look better for the rear badge?
-
Sorry maybe I'm old -fashioned but I don't like black badges or black alloy wheels.
I think of them as the car's jewellry which should be bright to set the car off.

I'm not a massive fan of chrome on white cars as it makes them look off white in comparison, I'm not normally a fan of silver wheels on them either (although I love the Monzas). I think dark badges on light cars = good

I'll keep playing with it. I did put 5 thin layers evenly but maybe I didn't shake the can enough.
I agree with the gloss black. That would look better since the background is matt.

I'm going to try the front splitter as well since it's so easy and removable.

Not so sure it looks to good in the vid, only cus he's got a black car.....to much black in my opinion
But then on silver, white and red cars I think the black looks
Nice job Awry!!
Go for it Scott
-
colour coded badges would look good on the silver i reckon. more matt or metallic silver then chrome would be very nice
i think it looks turd on white cars so all be leaving mine OEM
-
I've seen black badges on a black GTi and they looked good as part of the overall car's stealth look - Hasn't Hurdy's Polo GTi got the same - that's a beast of a car.
Just my opinion - I think on silver they don't have the same impact.
-
I've ordered a can of black so will see how it looks.
I'm assuming I can apply the clear coat at a later date should I want to make it gloss.
-
tempted to try this on my tornado red one...

What he said
As I've said on Jaker's thread, I ended up removing the rear badges and swapping the front for a Red Anniversary style badge which I picked up off of eBay for £3. I tried chrome on the rear and also red on the rear and neither really did it for me. I much prefer the clean look now.
As for the £3 eBay efforts, they are good while they last but after about 6 months I'd say they begin to corrode and the plastic red insert can lift off. But heck they're only £3 and hardly much of an effort to swap out for fresh one's once summer's back around.

I tried Plastidip on a spare Audi badge I've got and it worked great!

Looking forward to doing mine now but not sure whether I should do gloss black or not.....

Did you do your splitter at all? Interested to see/hear how it went....
Cheaper than a vinyl wrap!

You have to spray black then spray clear - http://www.plastidip.co.uk/eStore/index.cfm?Plastidip_Aerosol_Spray_-_311g&stage=3&colour=Black,Blue,Clear,Red,White,Yellow&pid=PDL-0009
I think I got mine off eBay as it was slightly cheaper with postage
