Title: Sound Proofing
Post by: Cliff_944 on 22 April 2012, 20:44
Just looking in the boot of the MK6.  There is no sound proofing in the boot behind the panels. The car is refined but was wondering if sound proofing the boot would make a difference to tyre noise.  Has anyone tried it?

I've not tried soundproofing it but I do know that when I've had the back filled with sleeping bags and camping equipment the car has seemed a good bit quieter on the road.

Alternatively putting the back seats down makes it louder .

I think Will@carbon did it, don't think it was a two minute job though.

eBay seems to sell the stuff...and the panel come off easy enough.  I took one side off to have a look.

Tried it using some cheapo/no brand made-in-china stuff(was hoping to get rid of the low pitch drone when accelerating from 1k above. Doubt it made any difference. With the soundaktor unplugged now the tire noise is much louder. It makes me wanna slap on some sound absorbent materials in the wheel wells/arches.

Honestly, it's never ending! You'll do that and then suddenly hear rattles that you've never heard before. Believe me, I've been there, done that, not on the Golf but A3. Just leave it and be happy lol
