I find that cheap chavfords polish gets rid of swirl marks and gives it a deep shine. autoglym makes it look dry but tidy.
The only thing im having trouble with is the wax that gets left over once i buff the polish off.
Getting pissed off coz the wax looks stupid when the sun hits it.
What do you peeps use to polish up your cars and whats it like?
-
I've tried most cleaning products and find Mer gives the best finish.
-
Zymol cleaner wax  about £12 a bottle, goes on easy, comes off easy and is totally lush.

-
i like to use mainly Autoglym but use the mer car shampoo for washing my car.
-
gear box oil
/me heads for the door

TURTLE WAX GLOSS GUARD(AUTOEXPRESS 2005 WINNER) 500ML £6.99
-
Just bought some Meguiars recently and this stuff outperforms everything else i've tried in the past.
Loads of other people i've talked to about to also rate it highly :)
-
Auto Glym here but if you have a dark car teh black newsih stuff is best it doesn't leave any white power after.
I also use the hi gloss gold one but it is hard work but not needed to be done as often.
-
I use meguiars gold class, its about £13 a bottle and its the bollox. Easy on, easy off, dry's clear so there is no white powder over my black car.
-
autoglym for me, but i might get some meguiars soon, seen a few cars with it and it looks very good
-
I have had autoglym in the past but i prefer mer brings it up alot better
-
Mer kicks ass but it bloody hard work to buff off! so what i do is use Mer one in four polishe's and then i use Turtle high gloss polish which is so easy to use and brings up a very deep shine!
-
if only i had a car to polish......
-
if i'm doing a good clean i use that colour magic stuff, then autoglym super resin polish, then autoglym supergloss protection. meguires is meant to be very good, but if you want a frickin good polish splash out and buy some swissol stuff. not cheap but is veeeeeeeeeeery good!
-
that the 150 squid valet thing? ^^
-
I use Meguiars Tech Wax from their new Nxt Generation range and prefer it over Mer + It's a lot easier to buff off the Mer.
People at work are always saying the my car is "gleaming" when out in the works car park after I've given it a once over with this stuff.
-
that the 150 squid valet thing? ^^
there was a group buy thing in the deals section, have a look for details but g-star also sells it so hey may be able to tell you more
-
Guys
Dont know if you have heard of them but I used to work for AutoSmart. They mainly supply the Valeting trade and dealerships but I could arrange to get a couple of you samples of their stuff and you could do a bit of a review of it for everyone else. If you think its crap then fair enough I will know they are missing me in the R+D labs lol but if not it would certainly be cheaper than the meguires etc
Dan
-
I would'nt mind trying it dan
-
Ok mate send me an e-mail with your address and I will send you some as soon as possible.
Dan
-
me too Dan pm sent
I use Autoglym and find it brings mine up really nice but doesn't last very long before it fades but Autosmart stuff is really good proffesional stuff and it's pretty cheap too.
-
have sent you a pm bud, can i get a sample?

I just tried the new Autoglym Ultra deep shine on mine yesterday. It's meant for darker colours, but after reading it worked well on a gold car I gave it a go. Down to halfords and £11.99 lighter...
Goes on easy enough. I have a habit of putting far too much on in one time :D Used 1 perfect polishing cloth to put it on and another perfect polishing cloth to remove it. Car now looks awesome. It defiently removes those tiny scratches left by bushes when I park in them at work and leaves the rest of the car looking extremely clean.
Highly recommended! Now to do the glass tonight with none other than Autoglyms clear glass polish and another hoover out as I'm up to my parents next week.
I've also tried the Mequairs liquid gold which also works well, but I found a lot harder to remove if you leave it on the paintwork too long. Their little pad does a great job on putting it on properly and evenly. Might be worth buying those to use with other polishes/waxes.
-
i also have just tried the autoglym ultra deep shine, meant for dark cars....mines black can you get darker?!!? anyway its good stuff, not sure how much better than the normal autoglym but i like it and will use it from now on i think!
-
yeh ive settled for ultra deep shine.
Leave a deep shine on the blue wagon. makes it stand out really well.
-
i tell you what, because of the sh!tty hosepipe ban round here, i went to the nearest jet wash to get my car all nice for bugjam and it was frickin awesome! not sure what "brand" of jetwash it was but my car came up amazingly clean and it has several different types of evrything. best £4 i've ever spent on a car wash!
-
what hosepipe ban.  :lipsrsealed:
dont use the brush they supply. take your own spung with you!

You will find our Swissol price list via the link below..
http://www.gstar-dubworld.co.uk/swissol.htm
Starter kits from £69.90
Entry Level Kits from £110.00
One application can last up to three months, next year at the shows we are looking to provide demo's, if anyone in the mean time would want a panel doing for free at a show then come and see us, one kit can last up to 2 years or 40 applications.
I never try and sell this polish because to me personally it a question of believing rather then selling, if you see the effect and believe in it then you will not return to previous product, the only two products I do recommend are Swissol & Zymol, there is also a long history between these two products.
Any questions come and see us at the shows, our black GTi has only been cleansed and polished with Swissol once this year and that was at the start of the Spring Festival @ Santa Pod back in April, no further applications since, come an throw some water at it, it will tell you a story.

I am going to try the autoglym ultra deep shine this weekend!
I tried the tutlewax coulor stuff and it matched my car perfect on the bottle, but when dried it went very light, no point in using it!
Hope the autglym does better!
-
OK, got me some Autoglym Ultra deep shine at the Bromley Car Pagent a few weeks back. Used it last weekend to polish and remove some bush scratches I put all over the car after driving down an over grown country lane with the mrs. (don't ask!).
Anyway, comes up really well. Little more tricky to remove than the regular stuff. Removed al the scratches ok. Try not to put too much on like dizzie says.
My car is Royal Blue mettalic, and it there are far fewer swirl marks, than with the regular polish.
Also, I used a polishing machine for the first time, which works out well, because it gives you more time/energy to work on the fiddly/detailed bits.
-
Polish your car?? That sounds like hard work
-
it is! i look like i have done the bloody london marthon when i use mer! but dam does the car look sweet afterwards!
-

-
Still got any sample GolfDan? i would love to try it!
-
Once every month or so i use Mer just to cut my car and then every week i use Meguiers Nxt generation stuff and the car's never looked so good. I also use meguires tyre cleaner and quick detailer as little extras. Can't recommend it enough.
-
Autoglym Super Resin Polish for me at the moment, lovely stuff.............I did try some wax from the "pound shop" (I am a tight arse), but strangely it was not very good........
-
MMMMMMM wonder why
-
i find the urine from a young beaver works a treat!
-
when i first got my golf a friend that was a valeter polished mine with dimond bright il tell you one dude it looked mint!and i think correct me if im wrong but its the only polish to garrantee.it comes in a pack, you get two little bottles and a can.one bottle contains like a degreaser and the other the polish ive never seen anythink like it.oh and in the can you get scotch guard which is enough to do you youre seats youre carpets and door cards.they must have a site dude worth checking
-
Autoglym, i use it on my black mk 1 caddy, gives it one hell of a shine and it removes swirls too!
-
I use meguiars and I'm very happy with it but for all you cleaning freaks I hear that this is the best stuff going ?

-
Autoglym is best. TBH
-
Not a fan of Autoglym - used it in the past and to be fair, it doesn't have a patch on the Meguiar's products for price comparisson. Clay bar and detailer to clean properly, Stage 1 paint cleaner, Stage 2 polish and Stage 3 carnuba or the NXT Wax. Wash with Soft wash gel or Gold Class wash so as not to sptrip the work you've done!!!
That's an extreme clean mind! After that you're into the realms of orbital polishers and the like - check out www.polishedbliss.co.uk for a fantastic set of products and a really helpful guy!
I've used Klasse all in one polish and Optimum car wax on my new ALtea - easy to apply as time is premium. Well happy with the results on platinum grey.
-
Gotta agree with RaKeR, I've used Autoglym and found it loads of hard work for very average results but until something better for the money comes along I'll be sticking with Meguiar's
-
That's put that puppy to bed then!
Amen!
-
yeah me too! after years of using autoglym and liking it i've just had my car resprayed and have started using meguires wax's to keep it looking hot and i'm very impressed, goes on easy, buff's off easy and seems to use alot less than i'd imagine.
best stuff i've seen in action though is swizzol stuff. its amazing but not cheap. zymols biggest rival....
-
I'm an autoglym dude. Used to use Mer but i seemed to end up with a lot of swirls when i buffed it off.

Swirls can be caused by dirt trapped when you wash, polish or wax. Don't wash the car with a sponge, use a cloth, and rinse it often. when polishing / waxing check the cloth / buffer often.
-
2 bucket method baby! Use the bucket with product, load your wash mitt [meg's lambswool I use - soft and very deep pile traps any dirt away from the ends of the fibres] wash away from top down, panel by panel, but along the way every few loads rinse your mitt in a bucket of warm water with no product.
Hence, well, err - 2 bucket method!
Lol!
-
^^^ also halford now have bargain 3 pack of mits, (lambswool mit, micro fibre polishing mit and half lambswool, half nasty scratchy mit) for £9.99, cut the nasty scratchy bit off and bargain pack of mits!
