Title: 8V GTi Problems
Post by: gwatson on 03 June 2005, 20:54
Hi guys,

Posting on behalf of a mate. His car started playing up a few months ago with a slight misfire around 2900rpm, although it now looks like this is fixed by replacing the ditributor cap and rotor arm, leads and air flow sensor.

Since then things have got a lot worse, the car now judders at all revs rather than a misfire. There is a constant metailic clunking noise coming from the engine bay. Every now and again there is a louder clunk and it seems to pop out and back into gear.

Has anyone else experianced this or have any ideas? He's stressing it'll need a new gearbox. Car is a '97 MKIII 8v GTi.
