Title: Calling Type 2 Owners - Engine advice needed
Post by: Gloves88 on 19 April 2012, 22:03
Figured I'd try asking on here.......

Got a mate who's just bought a '79 Type 2 VW camper and it needs a new engine.

He's been offered a new VW 1700 fitted for ~£1500 but is also toying with the idea of a newer water cooled diesel.

My first thought was the new Subaru Boxer diesel engine but being so new they are hard to get a hold of and there isnt that much info on how to fit them.

Does anyone have any other suggestions and if possible know of any build thread with info on how to fit them?

Ideally something practical, diesel and with a bit more power then the aircooled options.

Cheers

As Danny said massive issues to make water cooled. Need to find space for radiators and pipework etc. Not a lot of space in a bays engine bay.

What's the 1700 from? If it's from a t25 it might not fit.

Best bet is to speak to someone like TSR conversions as that is the focus of their business.

if going watercooled you can stash a couple of bike radiators,    or lay a rad down and feed it with a scoop.

bike rad solution is cutest but just what sort of engine power outputs they can support needs to be determined
