Title: New car mk4 :-)
Post by: Povey on 19 April 2012, 20:36
Alright, so iv just brought a mk4 to go with the wife's mk3 lol

51 plate 1.6 16v, mint interior, mint exterior everything works and drives lovely, mot and tax £650 bloody bargain!

Only problem is..... It's a 1.6!!!

What's my options in regards to engine swaps I dont want to go 1.8t as I might as well just get a GTI in the first place!

I was wondering if a vr6 would go in if so how much of a mission would it be?
Or a 2.8 v6 from a 4motion similar engines, what parts would I need?

Or any other options? Is the 1.6 and good to tune up?

Thnks in advance
Pove

bargain there mate but tbh without spending a fortune i dont think your gonna get much extra from it in tuning wise maybe air filter and exhaust would help... as you said you dont want a 1.8t that is the most tuneable lump you ould put in really as for 4mo etc i dont know but sure one of the guys be along to help you out hth a lil bit

Best thing to do is run around in the 1.6 whilst you save up for something better.  Amount of work involved turning your 1.6 into something with a v6 engine would be silly when you consider that you can just go out and buy said car for less in the first place.

you can pick a 1.8t up for quite cheap nowadays but insurance may be a factor so you would have to check and sum things up first lets not forget the insurance here please chaps on a 1.8t as some ppl know they rape you  damn i think my soft side is coming out using words like please

Lol it was a good bargain so I had to snap it up, and the insurance is a bummer for a GTI, I don't want to go crzy with power just have a bit more poke as the wife's mk3 is only a 1.8 8v and it's faster :-s

Save up and then get something quicker, building what you can buy never makes sense.

Dude I have a 2.0 gti (Insurance not an issue as I'm 29+). I was thinking of changing to a 1.8t, but then realised that my c0ck was big enough.
