I would by inclined to say the Mk3 would come off worse since its older but there isn't really that much difference in their structural design. Depends which ones sitting lower to the ground :grin:

don't worry if it was an escort of similar years you'd feel it so much more!! (as in splattered!)
ford did some major mods after the 1992 crash test on that after it crumpled really bad and also set on fire! The Golf did really well for the era :cool:

Mk4's are definetly safer and stronger, hence they're so lardy.

i hate to see battered mk3's or mistreated ones, however love to see a banged up mk4!! my favourite was watching one in a car crusher... loved it... had to go change my pants after too!!
it was exillerating wathing the claw rip through its ungly face and then smash it into the lovely little square it became... can you tell i loath mk4's :evil:

Mk3 clearly worse off. Older design, era of less aim towards safety and less safety features.

get the mk4 to drive into the back of a mk3 it wont damage it much that way had an idiot woman in a land rover go into rear of my old k reg gl mk3 and all it done was push boot in and slightly ripple floor o and made bumper look like wings lol but not bad for a 4x4 impact at 30 for mine bein at standstill :D the mk3s were pretty advanced with safety when brought out :)

It really is, its rare to see one without that splendid silver go faster stripe down the rear flank.

It's a shame, because if you are not fussed what you drive then the mondeo has always been and still is a very capable motor.

I have a mate who was driven head on into in his Mondeo by an Audi A4 at 60mph, and that was f**ked, but fortunately he wasn't. He owns several cars (Manta's/big American Mecury/Land Rover/Discovery) but went straight back out and bought another Mondeo as a daily as he said he didn't feel safe in anything else after the crash.

The more crumple outside of the survival cell the better as it will absorb the energy much more efficiently. If you see the 1997 mondeo you can see the survival cell crumpling, the pillar above the door bends and more energy is transferred to the people inside. On the 2007 mondeo you can see the survival cell remains intact, and you can see the roof rippling as the energy is channeled around the people inside rather than through them.
