Title: eibach rear ARB fitting problems
Post by: colz1234 on 19 April 2012, 17:52
car was in garage today to get front and rear ARB's fitted, front went on no problem, but they couldnt fit the back one

the clamps they supplied that go around the subframe are too short and wont go all the way round, apparently most golf rear subframes are circular but mine is triangular and too wide, so cant fasten it to anything, has anyone else had this problem?

im not even sure where to get the clamps to as my mechanic said he didnt even know what they were called

has anyone experienced this before? or could help me to fix my problem? i can take some pics if it helps

thanks

EDIT:
just realised you mean the middle part were it clamps, sure on mine its circular aswell. so cant help you with regards to were you would get triangle ones from. sorry

Hi
I have Eibech front and rear ARB fitted to my car, which does have the triangulated rear axle......think they all do?

Anyway, there is a centre damper which is held on by two bolts, if you undo and remove, you can attach it to the opposite side of the rear axle, as there are two holes there also.  It gets in the way otherwise so you are unable to fit the ARB flush with it the way.

It was a bit of fiddle I have to admit fitting the clamps, as I was lying under the car trying to push the clamps together whislt trying to tighten, but it should all go together.

I've got a build thread on my car, but it doesn't have too many pictures on the rear.  But if you search the 'How To' section  I think you may also find some info there.

Best of luck mate

ive had a look, my jack doesnt go very high though so can only get a limited space to look

when you say the centre damper is held on by two bolts, do you mean the bit right in the middle of the axle, with 2 bolts about 2 inches or so away from eachother?

i just explained all of that to my mechanic, and hes still scratching his head

do you use different clamps or just the stuff supplied with the kit? as he cant work out how they are big enough to go around

sorry to be a pain!

You bend the long metal bits round the beam, then stick the bolt through the end of the strap and bolt to the other end...

On mine the bolts go on the upper front side (front of car) of the beam.
