if anyone could help it would be great, i recent changed my maf sensor as it was broke, intially after it made such a massive difference i couldnt believe it! then about 2 weeks later it started going into limp mode when hitting 3,000 revs, plugged it into a reader and no codes seem to come up.
it resets itself when i turn the engine off and on but does it again after, the car also feels like it is going to stall at a certain part of the throttle. it kangaroos usually at around 1,000 revs or just over, then as soon as i put a little bit of throttle on its fine,
please could someone help, before i go mad!

Literally no idea mate. Perhaps changing the MAF had no bearing on the limp mode. Sticky VNT? I know you said no error codes have come up but perhaps they reset before you get a chance to read them? :undecided:

hmm, i think its genuine, although, the one i replaced was a bosch one,, but i dont know if that was the original or not in the first place, i used an ebay company, but the part numbers are the same and everything for the non bosch replacement.
something else that might help is that i took the main pipe that leads the the egr valve off to have a look, and looked inside the butterfly and it was litterally full of black oil. i cleaned out what i could reach with my finger and a piece of kitchen roll, would this be a possible cause???
also the car is a 1999 ahf 110 bph model.

also something else to add.. every morning, or if its been sat a couple hours it takes about 3 attempts to start, sometimes it judders massively then dies, and when it does start after putting the throttle on it kicks out a fairly large amount of smoke.

If you replaced it with a bosch one then it is genuine.
Take your EGR valve off and give it a good clean, if you can muster the energy and know how then remove your inlet manifold as well ( the thing that the EGR attaches to) give them a good clean with some Mr muscle. This will probably, if not definitely help your car work better.
Cannot suggest anything else, sorry mate :sad:

no i replaced it with the equivilent non bosch one, but the part number is a match for my car.
and ye i have been wanting to strip all that down and give it a good clean since i bought it, so will do soon as possble and will share my results,
do you know if there is anything to beware of when stripping down the turbo? watched the vids posted on here somewhere and it seems a bit too easy....?

Stripping down the TURBO? Christ knows mate. I don't even think I'd have the bottle to attempt a turbo change!

To get the manifold off is simple...Then I believe it is just the bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the block, obv the turbo is attached to that!

just an update.....
took the turbo off today, along with the manifolds and egr.
got to say i am so glad i did it! i have never ever seen so much crap come out of something that shouldnt be there, since george bush,
the turbo was completely sooted up. the inlet was only just hollow enough to let any air through, and the egr was the same.
i should have taken pictures i know, but with doing this outside in this weather that was the last thing on my mind,
also i found that the drivers side drive shaft was only being held on by 3 of the bolts, .... the rest were looose, which is where i think the oil was coming from being spat up by the shaft,

Glad it is all clean now thought, it really is amazing how sooted up it gets!
How does the oil feed line come off? Did you lose all your oil at the same time? Only 3 bolts holding your drive shaft on is proper dodgey! Strange how they became lose! There is no oil in or around the driveshafts, just the grease in the CV boots...is it the grease that is spat up by it spinning?

i know but this was some serious weather at one point the cover fell down from the garage door when i was underneath and i ended up lying in a puddle, NOT FUN! and the oil feed was easy only a tiny tiny amound came out, not even two drips, and ye i meant grease, i think that may have been what spat up looking at it, also i found that the inspection panel on the side of the bell housing had bent out and i could clearly see the fly wheel, and this was rubbing on the inner drive shaft ring,
i will find out tomorrow morning if it fixes the limp mode trouble though on the way to work,
i still have a really bad flat spot on the accellorater though, thinking maybe the accellorater switch?????
just need to change the oil now as this is black, along with the filter, fuel filter and also both wishbones, along with anti roll bar bushes and drop links,
and lastly i have a coil over kit to go on as the suspension in completely knackered,
all of that i will do one day this week, should be an allright runner after that!

How long did it take you to remove the turbo then mate? And what did you use to clean it all out with?

i started at about half 11 yesterday until half 5, and put it all back in from 11 today untill about 4pm so not too long i dont think, the bit that took the time was getting the crap out of it all, and also two of the three bolts that hold the center ring in place inside the turbo had snapped off with out even putting any pressure on the ratchet, so had to drill them out and re thread them.
and the turbo i used penertrating degreaser, and petrol for the manifold,
and lots of tea !

Christ man, that is some serious effort. You do in your the drive just on axle stands? Did you take the turbo out from the top or bottom? Is it 'just' a bolt on bolt off job? How does the oil feed connect up?
Sorry for all the questions just considering on changing me turbo in the future and would like DIM...

What bolts did you replace the snapped ones with as they are very shallow headed?
The first time I did mine it all came appart without any problem, but when I tried taking it appart again one of them snapped off :cry: due to lack of time and needing the car I ended up with a refurb from ECP which wasn't too badly priced with forum discount and most importantly in stock and fitted the same day :afro:

The turbo comes out of the top, there is loads of room without the inlet manifold in place, to get it out from underneath the drive shaft would need to come off and TBH I don't know if there would still be room.

Ohhh I am so tempted as I know I will one have one weekend where I'm doing nothing...But I don't really have a reason :sad: :grin:
Am I right in thinkning that you 'have' to change the oil after doing this?

No you don't have to but while you are under there it is worth it :afro:
If you are just swapping a turbo and not stripping one down it is easily do-able in a day

the turbo is much easier if you take it all off in one piece with the exhaust manifold, with out taking both out it would be very difficult to get to the last two bolts holding it in the manifold housing.
and also i used 3 stainless bolts the same size and lenth, they were not torque heads though just round flat screw driver jobbies.
i found it easier though getting the bottom turbo hose off from underneath and also the bottom oil pipe,
there are two torque head bolts underneath for the oild return. just obviously needed to take the under tray off and also the top is s single 17m
and ye in the driveway on one axel stand to save time jacking it up and down,

oh and also the turbo only took 5 minutes to strip down and about 15 mins to clean it up,
but because the inside ring thats pressed in is hardened steel and also the bolts are stainless it takes ages to drill out. but got there in the end!

Would I see any benefit or gains if I did this my self? People have said about the oil feed line being easily broken on removal, what do you think? Was the exhaust manifold proper gunked up as well? I noticed a considerable difference when I mr muscles the inelt manifold...

feels a lot more responsive, but it depends i suppose on how bad yours is in the first place. and the oil return pipe on the bottom could, i suppose, be broken easily if you drop the exhuast down accidentally and the top one you just have to be careful when removing the manifold and make sure it clears the top feed pipe.
