Hi everyone my name is mike I live in swansea, not sure if this is in the rite place I have just done a conversion on my mk4 golf from a 1.6 to a 1.8t the problem I have is that the car will start then cut out, I have changed the ecu, clocks , key and ignition barrel. I know its quite vaige but any help would be appreciateted. Thanks mike.

Scanned for fault codes?
Removed imob??
-
Well I only finished it this evening so haven't scanned yet I will have to get some body to do it tomorrow, I thought the imobiliser would have been ok as I used all the new things from the same car. The only thing is that when I press the buttons on the new key nothing happens?
-
If it was immobiliser related surely it wouldnt start atall!?
Fuel
air
Spark
?
-
I think if the clocks are unplugged that makes them need deciding again??
Double check everything
Earth ok????
-
If it was immobiliser related surely it wouldnt start atall!?
Not always, they tend to start then cut out straight away.
-
I have fuel coming through and spark as I sed it starts then cuts out after about 3 seconds and I can hear one of the relays clicking, just the let u know I have a 1999 car and the engine is a agu from a 2000.
-
Earth is good.
-
It seems weird to me I mean how could a key work on one car then move the ecu clocks ignition barrel to a diffrent car then it won't work? Surley all this problem with it starting then cutting out 3 seconds later and the fact the key is not working it must be an imobiliser fault? I had a problem with a few of the electrical conections expesially the 3 that are underneath the scuttle pannel on the drivers side 1 of them was differnt it had 3 wires on the 1.6 and 4 wires on the 1.8t so I chopped the 1.8t block off and connected the 1.6 block to it. Anybody come across this before if so what did they do? Any help appreciated.
-
ide say immobiliser kicking in and stalling the car.
-
i have the same problem after swappin my 1.8 none turbo to a 1.8 turbo i have my mate coming round tomorrow to recode all clocks and everything and map it at same time so will let you know if it makes a differance
-
Iv done this conversion mate and im down the road from you pm me your number ill have a chat with you
It may well be the wires in the plenum chamber.
Its basically the fuel pump relay.
The 1.6 wire loom needs to be spliced into the AGU loom.
Its really easy, The purple/white wire from the 1.6 loom needs to be spliced into the 1.8t loom insude the chamber.
-
Thats why ur relay is clicking btw, Because its not wired up correctly.
-
Hi Jamie1989 how do I pm? I don't know if I am alowed to put my number on here but it is , thanks mike.
-
you need to have 10 or more posts to activate the pm part of your account so start posting
-
So am I allowed to put my number on a post?
-
No props mate, I think you need 10 post counts. I finish work @ 6 so I will call you then if you want?
Otherwise, Go out to your car if its not raining lol
Undo the the wipers, motors etc. Theres a white box on the left hand side, open it.
Youl then see 3 plugs 1-orange 1-white 1-brown.
Right from the top of my head the brown plug which is the agu plug will have the purple/white wire in it.
And the orange plug from the 1.6 loom will have the same wire in it.
You need to remove the purple/white wire from the orange plug and connect it to the brown plug (purple/white wire).
Does that make sence?
-
dont know mate think you can its upto you really if you want like tens of thousands of ppl to see it and then use it in identity fraud or summat  wow the possibilities hmmm
-
I know this is a bit cheeky but if I have a nice warm brew for you lol and some cash would u be able to pop around?
-
Yeah mate Im available all day tomorrow, These wires need splicing.
I had my immob de-immob, but I used my old clocks and keys etc.
You might be ok with yours as you using everything from the donor car.
Also try unplugging the reverse switch on the gearbox, As I know a guy who done the same conversion and it turned out when he unplugged this his car started 1st time lol if it was connected it would only start in reverse .
-
That would be brilliant the only thing is I have a brow green and Orange plug? Tried the reverse no luck.
-
Yeah thats fine
Your green agu goes into the white socket mate.
Then the orange into orange and brown into brown.
You then need to move the purple/white wire from the orange into brown.
When you pull them apart you will see what I mean.
-
What I did was snip the purple/white wire from the bottom of the brown plug then cut the same wire into the orange wire then connect the two purple/white wires together.
So technically youl have a purple/white wire fully connected from the ECU down to the fuse box.
Its differcult to explain in writing haha

The above is perfect and exactly what you need mate.
-
I have a purple and white wire but in the other plug I don't. I think mine may be a bit diffrent. Would you be able to pop around tomorrow?
-
Yeah No props you should be able to pm me now mate.
Pm me your address Il pop up and have a look for you.
Itl be worth it when it starts
-
I don't know how to pm lol. Have u got my number? If u have give me a ring when convinient if you can .
-
No props mate ill ring after work
-
alright mate try this just got mine sorted this morning put ya car in to reverse and start it with ya foot on the clutch if that works cut the plug off the reverse light sensor on the gear box and twist the 2 wires together mines running sweet now
-
Cars now running sweet. Nice to meet you Mike good luck putting everything back together
Then start modding
-

-
I did think of that but the car was fine for about 30 mins then started to do it and when the message comes up on the dash then I switch off leave it for a few mins then go again it will be ok for a few mins.
-
may be a sensor but always worth checkin pick-up
-
as barry says could be sensor on oil filter housing was the one i had out but check pick up pipe to as this is usually the cause
-
Ok, am I rite in saying I have to remove sump?
-
