In all my previous Golfs (mk's 3,4 and 5) if I left the indicator on when I got out the car the side lights on that side of the car would stay on... on this one nothing happens. Is this normal? If it is, I wonder why this useful function has been disabled?

Mine works. I've just been and checked, and it works regardless of where the headlight switch is turned to as well. It's probably a coding issue.

Have you retro fitted led rear lights?
-
No, it had LED as standard... I've just been and checked again and the parking lights are working fine :undecided: I think I assumed they were not working because the 'lights on' chime didn't sound like it used to on previous Golfs. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

Well I parked on a street the other night and left the indicator on but the parking light did not operate... So I am not going mad like I first thought. After some messing about I found out that if the indicator is on before the ignition is switched off then the parking lights do not operate. So it would appear that you have put the indicator on after switching off/removing the key to operate the parking lights...
Glad I cleared that up, it was starting to get on my nerves ;-)

Its 2 years ago when I read my handbook but I thought you had to leave the lights on before the parking light feature works else if you get out and have left the lndicator on left or right you would have the parking lamps on whether you wanted them or not? Probably the lights on buzzer doesn't work if the indicator is on?
This feature was on cars in the 70's so its nothing new.

It's just that now you don't leave them on by mistake. Like indicating and pulling into a layby during the day for example.
