Title: ways to drain & flush power steering system,
Post by: Dogbot on 17 April 2012, 12:54
Now, I have made a grave error....

whilst finishing up the wifes lupo project for the road I have made a proper noob mistake and used dextron III type mineral power steering fluid, only 600 miles at a push have past & i have since learned my error, I have the correct fluid on its way but my question remains how would you flush the system,

I was going to remove the return pipe from the pump and run the system, as the fluid drops i intend to fill it up as it runs through with the correct fluid so that it flushes throu, i also intend to have someone turn from lock to lock with the wheels jacked up to get all the fluid through, once coming through clean & green I would re attch the return pipe and set about removing any air.....

Anyone have a better way??

Hopefully ive not caused the seals to be damaged to badly... no leaks at present....

Any thoughts appreciated... and yes I know im a muppet of epic proprtions!!

suck as much as you can out of the reservoir first to minimise the mixing, other than that your plan sounds about right.
