Title: West Mids garage recommendations - On my way to stage 1
Post by: Bish922 on 16 April 2012, 15:15
Hi people

Been floating around this forum for a few months now picking up knowledge here and there and have decided to go down the remap route  picked up a Forge 007p, pipercross panel filter and 5 set hose boost kit (creationsmotosport). First question is should this be enough for a stage 1 map? Second question is can anyone recommend some garages around the west mids to help fit all this stuff as I am a mechanical novice haha! I would love to have a go myself but as I use the car daily I can't really afford to mess it up!

Obviously be heading R-Tech way for the re-map as it is in the mids. My engine is an 03 AUM! 79K on the clock

Ta!

Yer i was looking at the TIPs as they have been recommended on here. As for the cat back etc they are all bit pricey for me atm. I will invest eventually, Miltek and 4mo Val hopefully

I really wouldn't pay a garage to do the 007p or panel filter, if you can use a screwdriver you can fit those!

The boost hoses should be pretty straight forwards too, just the intercooler one may be a bit of a pain.

haha as said I'm very limited with my mechanical knowledge the only thing i feel comfortable is changing the filter as i think my nan could do that. If I didn't need my car daily then i would give it bosch just don't want to do something dodge and be f**ked!

The air filters more awkward than fitting the dump valve

pipes wont take half hour even for a novice just do one a day till they are all done instead of paying labour at garage pipes are like for like in shape so you cant really put it in the wrong place

TIP and hose that goes to intercooler are the hardest to fit but can be done if your confident jacking the car, using axel stands and removing wheel.

don't need an exhaust for stage 1 and wouldn't imagine a cat back to make much if any difference, de-cat or sports cat however is a different story.

Tbh mate you can make it undriveable, If you can't figure it out (which tbh as much as your worrying you should easily do it) you can just put it back to how it was (just take some photos first)

Everyone has to start somewhere and these mods are some of the easiest therefore the best place to start.
My car is my daily and I tackled everything from the front mounted to the turbo change haha
Get it done mate and have fun

Cheers for the advice and I have been thinking that I've got to start somewhere. Think I might have a nose around on the weekend and the photo advice sounds like a good idea!

Do you know where the 007p goes? Possible the easiest mod to do, two jubilee clips and a small pipe, standard one is a small black plastic one ontop of your tip (to the left of your airbox and right of your engine rocker cover. You just loosen the two jubilee clips and remove the top pipe then put the 007p in its place should look like this.....

Apart from the blue pipe will be black

Im in bromsgrove about 12 miles south of brum mate seems a bit of a mission from tammy. One quick question will I need jubilee clips for the new hoses as will they be a bit thicker?

yeah bit far really! its worth getting all new jubilee clips, the original ones are probably rusted up by now. Also your DV is probably still secured by the original one-use vw pinch clips so you'll need a couple of new ones there anyway. To be honest its a pretty straight forward job, the top turbo elbow can be a bit of a squeeze, and you'll have to pull the bumper and o/s headlight off to do the intercooler-throttle body hose. The little one after the pancake pipe is a doddle IF you remember to remove the 10mm nut that secures the pancake pipe to the chassis to give yourself a lot more free play :afro: (just remember to put it back on after!)
