Title: Why oh why?
Post by: Len on 16 April 2012, 12:28
Seen in our offsite car park today - a 61plate Scirroco Bluemotion!

Why have a sports coupe with an economy engine?

its the same 140ps engine, they just added the annoying bluemotion features like stop/start and battery regen. not sure if they got the lightened/streamlined parts and low drag tyres like the polos get, but it keeps the tree huggers happy.

I have a diesel Scirocco but not the blue motion, some people feel you shouldnt have a diesel sports coupe i would argue it is more than capable of doing the job

My brother has one, he had the 1.4 twincharger but he has a 50 mile round trip to work every day so it was costing him a small fortune, he loved the car so got the economical equivalent which as it turns out is a bit quicker mid range.

I would imagine a majority of people that have them get them through company car schemes so they will be cheap as chips on tax.

I can see the point, blue motion means it will apeal to the fleet customers, in fact I was going to have one, but opted for the 2.0tdi blue motion golf instead, the golf worked out about 8k cheaper than the scirocco though for pretty much the same spec!
Bottom line. it means you can have a Scirroco as a company car! awesome

As Thom has outlined - it's all about the CO2 emissions.

Low CO2, low company car tax (and RFL).

It should be banned I say!

A sporty looking car should not have an economy engine! End of.

But hey its not new!
Ford produced the Capri with a 1300 engine!

I can get 65mpg so economical but also have 205bhp & a shed load of torque so would say that classes as fast enough. I don t think mine even sounds like a tractor especially if I compare it to my TDI mk4 lol
