MK2 8v is still quick compared to mk3 and mk4 so you gotta count it in.

8v, 0-60 is still about 8-9 secs so its still sporty

Having driven an R32 recently I'd have to agree with Modulater, interesting to see that it didn't really have an impact in the VW cup this year though... MKI   showed it the way.  ;)

Apart from that 8V MKII all the way.

I love my 16v mkII for motorway and open road but would love an 8v around the cities. More lowend pep. mk3 and mk4 would have to be a VR6 though. they are just too heavy of a car for the 4 cyl engines. (for my taste anyway)

you can beat the howl of a 16v though when it comes on cam!

Theres no difference between 8v and 16v around town. The 8v is a good car, but the 16v is simply better.

Ouch!! weren't you ever taught to respect your elders? your Mk2s wouldn't be here without the original pocket rocket.
Old, but, never to be forgotten.  :P

i have to drive 90 miles a day to and from work in a mk2 8v and find the car very responsive buy its a bit tiring to drive coz the revs are so high up and engine noise is quiet loud.  City driving is good though but thinking of making the swap to mk3 16v for the motorway run.

Think i must be wanting more luxury than excitment - getting old - im only 25 :-[

As for me, the MK2 has always been one of my fave cars (Audi S2 if I was loaded).  U see, My dad was known for his T-plate 180bhp RS2000, and wen it got nicked I was a kid, and cried.  U cant help but notice the similarities at the front with a Golf2.

I opted for the G60/Rallye, coz they're just that bit more rare and special.

seems like my MKII 8v had a little more pep off the line then my 16v does. Maybe It is just the mind playing tricks on me. The 16v is loads of fun up on the high end and definatly loads smoother at high revs than the 8v was.
