Title: polishing by hand
Post by: ramps on 15 April 2012, 14:01
Never really tried a detail before but i dont have a jet washer or a polisher, could i still get quite good results by hand? I know about the two bucket wash etc and have had a good read up on detailing world etc but no one really gives any hand polising tips. I know not expect the same results as a machine polish but would still hope to get a good result.  Any help much appreciated

Yuo can get good results with hand polishing but all about the prep.  So wash and dry the car, clay if necessary, polish, seal (optional) then wax. Apply polish left to right and remove the same way - don't use circular motions.

Like wax polish needs time to haze before buffing off.

Does it not increase swirls and hologramming if you apply and remove polish/wax in a circular motion?

True! If your technique isn't good and your prep prior to polishing isn't thorough.

Nice results there mate, any reason why you did it by hand rather than machine?

Thanks, customer didn't want it machined (against my advice) so had to do it by hand, although you feel like poppeye afterwoulds it's quite therapeutic doing it by hand.
