I have noticed this morning that my car has started making a screeching sound coming from the engine bay somewhere. It is intermittant, and carries on for about 5 - 10 seconds after I have switched the engine off. It seems to happen as I am slowing down until the point where I am stopped at a junction / set of traffic lights and then after 5-10 seconds it stops again. When I start off again it starts untill im up to about 20mph then stops again.
I get the common screeching from the starter motor on start up every now and then but this is a different noise to that.
Ive just read a couple of posts mentioning ac compressor?? But would this noise carry on after engine is switched off like mine is doing?
Had a full service about 2000 miles ago, all VAG filters and fully synthetic oil used.
The auxillary belt is showing signs of wear and it is due a cambelt change in about 5000 miles.
it has 120k on the clock.
Just need to know if its ok to drive really?
Thanks,

Rad fan? Could be stuck on with faulty switch and be slighty seized :undecided:

ive tried driving with the clima control switched off completely and the noises stop, when I switch it back on the noises start. Does this help for someone to possibly diagnose what it will be?
-
yup. air ac belt

as rich says, rad fan bearings most likely.. can't think what else might keep spinning after the engine is turned off.
-
SAI possibly, mine made a horrible noise and I removed it :undecided:

Thanks everyone. Whats the SAI??
