Title: Had My Laser Eye Surgery
Post by: Evoss on 14 April 2012, 17:59
I have had my operation now, had it done on the 11th April by Mr Daya at the Centre of Sight in East Grinstead.

I have gone from -8.25 in my right and -5 in my left and an astigmatism to 20/20 vision in only one day from the surgery. My vision is still a little hazy at times, but to be expected as my eyes is a little swollen, fluid needs to go, cones in the back of my eyes need to re align. and generally just heal.

Overall the best investment of my life so far, very happy

If you have any questions of my experiences from it, I'd be happy to answer

Due to my prescription I couldn't go to companies like Optimax/Optical Express, had to get it done privately.

All in all it cost around £5,000

How does the process actually work and how long does it take?

You honestly don't want to know!

I've had a few consultations but I keep getting quotes like £3,500 so simple can't afford it   My eye sight is -6.5 right and -6.25 left, so pretty bad, plus I have astigmatism.

A Youtube video would be your best bet at looking at how it is done, I have yet to see how it is done as I probably would not of had it done if I knew :p

However as they were talking to me throughout the whole operation, it went like this.

You go into the operating theatre and sit on the revolving bed.
A ring shape object went over my eye which creates pressure to suck my eye out of the socket a bit to prevent blinking.
You go under the first laser where flap is created, and vision goes all fuzzy.
Immediately I was put under another laser where I had to stare at this red dot.
For 30 seconds the laser was re shaping my cornea.
After that, the surgeon has, only as I could say a squeegee to put the flap of the eye back down.

Then its a repeat on the other eye.

Good to here it all went well esp at that price but I guess you get what you pay for....(http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing32.gif)

How long in total have the docs said the healing process is?

Those adverts for £300 an eye make me...(http://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/071.gif)

Healing is based on myself as a person, but should be a few weeks to fully heal.
I could drive the day after/go to uni (If we were at uni atm).

Due to the operation my eyes are slightly hazy, this is due to;

This should take a few weeks for all this to be corrected, then it should be perfect :)

I know you get drops to numbs your eyes so you don't feel pain, but going by this video it looks cringy as hell, and the thought of not blinking for that length of time makes my eyes water!

Not blinking is the last of your worries with these operations  :lipsrsealed:

Hope the recovery goes well Evoss.. How is your night vision? Any streaking or starbursts?

they told me that if I had the surgery done it would remove the starbursts I get at the moment.  I've worn glasses since I was about 10, so didn't even know I was seeing starburts lol, to be it was normal!!

WOW from 8.25! Mine are 1.25 and I struggle without my lenses at times!  :nerd:

A few friends had lazer surgery done abroad (India) by top eye specialists. Turned out under £500 and that was high end. I am very tempted myself as lenses are a ball ache at times.

Good stuff

Happy for you mate. My left eye is f**ked from a bad detatched retina. What ever I look at is blured and missed shaped. A straight line will be bent lol

I've had several ops and it can be annoying makes me feel lucky as I paid nothing  sometimes you take them for granted and forget how precious they are.

No flash. That's just light reflection from a mirror. It's f**ked and was fall of a silicon oil.

Yep, that's basically it now I think back to how I felt when it was happening.

At the moment I get starbursts and some haze from lights, but expected during the healing process.

Healing is based on myself as a person, but should be a few weeks to fully heal.
I could drive the day after/go to uni (If we were at uni atm).

Due to the operation my eyes are slightly hazy, this is due to;
  • Swollen eyes
  • Liquid under the created flap
  • Cones in the back of the eye need to realign
  • Brain needs to come to terms that I have had laser shot in my eyes and sees the world differently.

This should take a few weeks for all this to be corrected, then it should be perfect :)

Few weeks to heal, wud have thort more like a few months but all sounds good mate....hope everything stays on track with the healing process!(http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing34.gif)
