Hi my mk2 golf 1.8 16v seems to be ticking over very high. When the car is first turned on the idle speed is ok at about 1000rpm. But as the engine gets warmer the idle speed rises to about 1300 to 1500 rpm and stays there when the car is standing and ticking over.
Also on cold mornings when the car is first turned on the tacho (rev counter) seems to stick or sometimes doesn't even work until the engine is fully warmed up.
Any ideas to solve these problems? cheers

Has it always done this? Ff so you just need to adjust the idle screw to bring it revs down?
Or has it just started to do this? Clean the ISV.

disconect the isv, if the engine dies when you unplug the isv check the above (adjust idle) but if not you could possibly have a faulty isv. whip the isv off ( the shiney metal bit directly right from the merteing head) and blast it with carb cleaner wait for it to evaporate and re-fit and try again. otherwise, wait for more responses :undecided:
