Title: Bad running on golf gti 16v
Post by: Loynes on 14 April 2012, 14:04
Hey everybody,

First post, just bought a none running golf gti 16v h reg from fleebay.  Good news is that I got it started ( at the bloke I bought from house :!!!!).  The fuel pump had stopped working, aa bloke had diagnosed this in doing so he removed the air box and didn't re connect the vacuum pipes properly.  I checked the power to the fuel pump (the one by the drivers side rear wheel) it had power so I beat liberally with hamer bet presto the pump worked.  It still wouldnt start, I cleaned the rotor arm, unplug plug leads etc still no good, I then un did the screw at the centre of what appears to be diaphragm ???? By the airbox has a srew head ajuster in the middle. And re connected the vacuum pipes on the bottom of the air box and it started,  sound super drove it down the private road to check it would make the journey home and it is flat as a fart and a bit lumpy.  Any idea what to check next, I'm thinking cleaning the plugs put some fresh fuel in?  How hard is to change the fuel filter?

Hi and welcome.  Good choice on the Valver.

It's all mechanical fuel injection setup, so can be fettled with spanners. Sound like a service and timing setup needs doing.  Is this your first Mk2?
