Title: Back in a Mk6
Post by: SteveP on 13 April 2012, 21:39
Time for another new daily, so farewell to the Polo GTI

This time back to what I know best a Mk5 and a bit Golf.

After a bit of a head and heart fight between an ED35 and the GTD, the sensible side of me won with the logic of the saving a good chunk on my £1k+ a month fuel from running a TFSI as a daily, which can then be reinvested in to the Mk5 Track Day toy.

So here's some pics to get the thread started. If the sun ever comes out again I will get some better ones

Spec wise it's pretty well loaded and being a late 2011 car it's got the standard heated leather interior and bluetooth upgrades on top of the following extras: -

DSG
RNS-510 Version H Sat Nav
Armrest MDI Kit
Sunroof
Lux pack inc Folding Mirrors
Winter Pack
Front and Rear Parking Sensors
Adaptive Xenon's with LED DRL's
18" Charleston Shadows

And the my normal choice of modifications has began, first up was the Rear View Camera

And then a trip to Revo for a bit of a power boost which has made a big difference to otherwise pretty dull driving experience

A few more bits to come but as I always say, I am not going too mad with this one

Nice one Steve. Lovely car and a very classy colour

When do the mods start then? Although that's a highly spec'd car...... Maybe put a petrol engine in it?

See, this "unmapped GTIs" thing folk seem to have with the "mapped GTDs". I had my car 3 days and came up against a mate with a mapped GTD. Up until about 80mph (on a private track), it was neck and neck, but he was quickly running out of revs and the GTI found itself a good 3 car lengths ahead by 120mph. Again, on the same private track, the huge amount of torque from the GTD ended up spinning the wheels away on the exit of a bend, allowing my GTI to gain a good car and a half of sheer acceleration before the GTD started to slow down the gap.

A GTD is just an economical 40-80 sprinter. Nothing more.

Did the polo just get to the miles you normally change at or was it not what you expected.
Doing 40k+ miles a year and having the mk5 as well I think you made the right choice with the GTD over the far thirsty ed35

Was expecting to keep the Polo longer but just found it a bit dull and on longer journeys it wasn't as refined or comfortable as the Mk6.

The Mk5 with its latest upgrades was part of the reason I went for the GTD for sure, if I feel the need to drive something with a bit more power then it's always in the garage ready

Excellent - it may be just a tad slower but perfect for me for my day-to-day car!  Obviously you need something else for the track!

Looks good and well specced. But look at the leather on the drivers seat bolster, check out the saggg and its not old yet.

Nice to see you back in a Mk6 Steve esp. the GTD - same reasons as me for the decision to stay with diesel although my mileage is a lot lower now (phew!!)

Great spec on the car - was it an ex-demonstrator?
