Title: radio surround. NOW PAINTED ENGINE BAY UPDATE
Post by: ALBEEEEY on 13 April 2012, 17:15
basically i've searched on here, in the maintanance and info section, on vw vortex and even google and still I cant find a guide of how to remove this part.
now im either an idiot or there isn't one (im going for idiot)

using my highly advanced paint skills I have painted the parts I wish to remove  :nerd:

If the trim has always been black then it's part of the cage and cannot be removed individually

mine were black but they un cliped by pushing them down and as for the cup holder a clip each side i used a flad blade to un clip

some you can unclip, others cant,

if you cant you have to start at the back, take out the ashtrays and drink holder, undo the screws remove the sections around gear stick and hand break then remove glove box then you can take the radio surround out. (stupid i know, another thing the monkeys at vw decided to make stupidly complicated!)

I'd post some pics of mine but haven't got any decent one's i used 3M di noc vinyl it's textured and looks real
It's even fooled some people asking where i got the r32 trims from, i just made sure all the grain went left to right on all the pieces same as r32/anni trim

It's the proper 3m stuff you can feel the grain on the vinyl
the link i posted was enough to do all of my golf trim and some of my brothers passat

Crap phone photo but only ones i have at the moment

Hmm know I'm stuck as to use this roll or the pre made trim

Not sure at all. The pre made trim is obviously less effort
Title: Re: radio surround
Post by: palmtree on 13 April 2012, 23:53
Tbh there both the same price and for the money you can't go wrong really
I removed all my trim to wrap it but you could do most of it in situ I think
it's pretty easy stuff to work with just need to use a hair drier to heat it up a bit
