Title: Boot not locking
Post by: GTI_Mike on 13 April 2012, 12:57
Hi!

This is the second MK4 I've owned. This a 1.9 TDI. Got it this week, loving it already!!

Only one issue though, the boot doesn't seem to lock with the remote. Only when I do it on the key.

Anyone else had this?

Mike

does your rear wiper work properly? if not then the above is most likely correct.

Its the lock that will be a bit siezed or the motor will have gone.

Take the black plastic cover off the inside of the boot ( the part that has grab handles it it ) just a few screws around it and its also held in by clips.

Once its off you will be able to see the lock assembly.

Flick your button iff the rod on the motor is trying to move the lock is siezed up. Spray wd40 free it off then lubricate with grease or oil

If the motor doesnt move the rod check for a electric feed to the motor, if thats ok the motor is knackered if not you have a wireing problem.

Most cases it will just be the lock that need freeing off wont take long to do and it not very hard

Just a thought have you turned the key to the correct position?

The rear boot lock can be left in 2 positions.

If the key blade, when removed, has the widest part showing upwards then the remote locking will not open the boot.

If the key if vertical when removed, thinest part of blade facing you as you look down, then the remote locking should work.

Had a look and spoke to a mate who deals with VW's. He said it's the way it's been configured. Apparently it can be reconfigured

you can disconnect the arm linking the handle to the central locking meaning it would only open with the key - but why would you not want it to open with the fob?

I had issues with mine leaking and when I came to change it noticed the original key didnt fit the boot lock, so it was being run ONLY from the fob, bad news when the fob broke, and you have the dog cage bars fitted and on one of the seats that holds the dog cage the clip had snapped

it was time for some careful cutting with the biggest cutters I had

It's opening with the key only at the moment and not with the fob!

exactly so it must have the bar disconnected in the boot handle
