hi guys/girls
after 4 years of mk3 ownership ive decided to chopped her in for my original choice a mk2 valver,
i wanted a black one however turned out to difficult to get hold of one, so ive gone for the trusty old tornado red mk2.
the guy i got it from was a peach really nice,
the plan is vr6 or the turbo route. :smiley:

After two mk3s I've gone the same way, mk2 Jetta for me

I have an 8v mk3 and 16v mk2
The mk2 is a much nicer car

i dont want to open a can of worms with you mk3 owners, but it did feel like a nicer drive

I've always wanted a mk2 was looking couple of years back when I crashed my mk3 16v. Wanted to do a abf swap but couldn't find anything.
Pros and cons of mk2 and mk3?

mk2 doesn't feel as solid to me, always felt like there was no substance to it. Rust problems are the biggest issue. I heard that a much more efficient rust-proofing method/substance was created not long after the mk2 launch although the mk3 isn't great for anti-corrosion.
If you get a mk2 you need to KNOW what you're doing, because things break. Alot. Very rarely anything significant but sensors, pipes etc. things that deteriorate with age and if you need to take it to a garage every time it'll leave you out of pocket.
mk2 is more fun to drive though, I miss mine like mad but it was getting too much to run and repair. Glad my mk3 is gone now though, loved it but it didn't have the same head-turning effect that a mk2 has

I own an 8v mk3 which i like very much and i would like to own a mk2 as well, at the same time and enjoy them both ok....

the black 3 was a surprise to say the least.. was just underpowered...
iv done my best to keep the originality present with it (how i like the mk3 best)
MK2's are cool tho.. nuff said! get a good one and its happy days.. the one i have cost me just short of £6k, it had only 50k on the clocks and was completely standard
i preferred my map stuff back then, the mk2 was sold to a mate who sadly got into thing crack and the mk2 was left to the sh!t and was sold on a couple of years later in a real mess.. then broken for parts
