ok so i took the engine cover of which holds the panel filter and i came up with a few ideas
just needed a bit of advice on if itll work or not
the engine cover also has the cold air intake on it but it has the potential to allow more air if i was to drill out the opposite side (red X) would this work?

looks like a maze
Ditch the whole lot, a friend had a 1.6 mk5 golf with a very similiar airbox and he put an open end airfilter on and that made a suprsising amount of difference
