Title: summer coolant
Post by: devilscaff on 11 April 2012, 20:16
Is it best to fill engine with neat coolant or is it worth 50/50 mix with water?

as above, normal mix is 50/50 you wont gain anything from using it neat. Antifreeze is a thick sticky product so would reduce flow as well if used neat

The whole point of coolant is that it raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point.

You need to add water to make it more fluid.

G12++ from the dealer as recommended. Its no more expensive than the sh!te you'd get at halfrauds either so no need not to.

The water is also there as it has a better specific heat capacity than coolant, i.e. it can carry more heat. Meaning it moves more heat away from the hot bits to the the radiator. So you may get overheating issues with coolant only!
