Title: Time lapse photography
Post by: bobbarley on 11 April 2012, 19:09
Has anyone experimented with time lapse photography?  My friend suggested trying it on our rally and it seems like a really good idea.

Apparently most Canon cameras can be modified to work as time lapse cameras.  You can pick up an old compact for tuppance on eBay, then you flash the firmware with a custom one that lets you to take timed photographs.

Sounds like a good bit of fun

It's something I have considered dipping into but have trouble getting decent stills.

You can get battery grips for some cameras that allow you to take shots in intervals.

I'm liking how the Canon thing works, definitely worth giving it a shot I reckon, I can report back once my mate and I have had a go, see what it's like.

HD Hero on a suction mount to the sunroof.

Really you want a remote release or the modded firmware as linked.

Nice!  That's the kind of thing we want to do.  How did you get the 2 second photos, did you use firmware?

That was actually done on my GoPro which has an option to take photos every 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds.

I've looked into the firmwares but my G5 is so old that there isn't a CHDK for it.

If your using a dslr then just buy an intervalometer to plug into it... Timelapse is more about editing than taking the aactual shots.

Crazy, it's cheaper to buy an old Canon camera and mod the firmware than it is to buy an intervalometer. go figure!
