Mine pictured below are my standard clocks the kit cost me £29 and the guy charged me £20 to fit them why I waited.I did kinda watch him and it didnt take him long at all about 15 to 20 mins. The chrome rings were a tenner so total cost was say £60 which isnt a bad price think I might look into the blue needles and white bulbs does look very nice..

I've fitted CAN clocks to non CAN cars before and they heve worked,it doesn't work on some but to say non CAN to CAN won't work is wrong (you have a better chance of success if the car is diesel).
Some non CAN cars don't pass the rev counter data properly (CAN cars pass it over the CAN system and pre-CAN cars pass it over a dedicated wire) so the rev counter doesn't work, on both petrol and diesel the airbag light needs coding out (bags still work though).
The only true way to tell is get some CAN clocks and connect them up and start the car, see if the rev counter works before the immobiliser kicks in - if it does you are good to go :afro:
Have a read of the cluster thread (http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/167146.aspx) on uk-mkivs
Neil
-
Hey Neil,
Are you able to retro wire temp sensors back to the clocks?
It looks too hard for me haha.
-
aRd would be your man for that, if it can be done he can do it :afro:

Who did you go to get them fitted? They look really good !
-
The company that sell the kits done mine he charges £20 to fit them but as I said there not that hard to fit the dials come out and apart pretty easy and once the needles are off you just swap the faces over ill try and find out how the needles come off pretty sure its easy to do.But its a cheaper way of doing your clocks.

There's a video on youtube somewhere, you spin the needles around clockwise and they get to a certain point and pop off (I think!)

I did them on my old pug 306 and they slid over the needles and did not have to take them off so might give it a go but rather get someone else to mess it up !

eBay  just make sure u get right one for your clocks as some have slightly different middle bits (for the warning lights)
Good quality then just but the rings and don't use the ones for the petrol and oil as that's overkill lol
-

My AGU has a FIS display in it :/ Really want some new clocks, but i had a fiddle with my mk4 1.4 clocks and i dunno if they work after i played lol
-
I had a look at getting those ebay bora sport overlays for my ARZ a while ago but neither the AGU or AUM ones matched with the symbols on my car.
What's involved with cutting them to make the symbols match? Obviously cutting them up and putting back together but wouldn't you be able to see where they had been cut?
-
Just what I was wondering...

yep, and you should check his crappy feedback,"COMPLETE TIMEWASTER"
-
Well they not a straight fit for the ARZ as they only have 6 lights under the fuel gauge and the overlays have 8. Is there any way of checking the make of the clocks without removing them?
-
The needles are easy to get off, just gently twist them backwards while pulling up.
Dom only just got 3G at work, will reply now

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-MK4-BORA-SPORT-CLOCK-OVERLAY-INSTRUMENT-CLUSTER-FIS-/160764236535?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item256e4b92f7
-
they'll not fit later bosch/motometer clusters without a fair amount of cutting/botching
tried to fit on me 2003 auq but ended up reselling on ebay - would of been too much work needed to fit them properly.
-
aRd would be your man for that, if it can be done he can do it :afro:
cheers man! i am driving up to his in Thornaby this weekend for temp sensor to be wired in and the stalk! boom finally!
