What problem are you having? I've done this on other cars as long as you can disengage the parking sensors, there may be some calibration requirements too.

I'm getting a removable towbar fitted on Friday.  The company fitting it said they will set up the computer for towing including parking sensors and safety features.  I'll let you know what they do.  You might like to look at this discussion.

I did not use this company but this YouTube video shows now it works

Hi, Thanks for the replies,

I was trying to find out if anyone had fitted a fixed swan neck towbar to a mk 6 with parking sensors and if they had; did it cause the sensors to beep or was it low enough not to interfere with the sensors.

It's a company car and a detatchable towbar is around £550 fitted but a fixed swan neck is significantly cheaper (im not too fussed about the look of having a fixed swan neck)

The accessories brouchure (see seperate thread), says that the intelligent setup recognises the towbar as not a hazard

Yep, when the dealer fits the towbar they set up the computer - it they need to set the computer up for the 'intelligent setup' when they fit the towbar.  The main dealer one cost over £1100 but you can get exactly the same fitted for between £600-700 from a towbar specialist.

Great for mountain bikes rather than the roof.  Also towing a box for taking all the gardening stuff to the dump or when you need to shift something large.   However, my main reason is I have canoes.  I did use roof rack on my old car but it is hard work to lift them, then they drop salt water and sand all over my car!

Hi, Thanks again for the additional information.

Hopefully I can get a fixed swan neck and get the computer 'intelligent setup' so that it will not set off the beeps

Main reason for getting the tow bar is for my garden/DIY trailer and to tow a jetski

Good luck with getting the bar fitted tomorrow, did you go for the car specific wiring kit too or just a universal can bus?

Do you really need rear parking sensors if you have a fixed towbar?

Thanks for your help

I've decided to play it safe and go for the detachable Westfalia towbar just to be sure that it does not interfere with the parking sensors.

Do you really need rear parking sensors if you have a fixed towbar?

Not really, but all our company cars now have parking sensors fitted, I think they decided it was cheaper than paying for bumper repairs later

Yep got a Westfalia detachable one with dedicated electrics.

No coding required!!!!

I have the rear camera and the RNS510 it shows a graphic of the trailer behind the car when reversing and no problems with the sensors.

Highly recommended,  I was going to order the kit from PF Jones, but local fitter ordered it from them for me cheaper than they could offer.  The fitter also ordered the new rear valance from VW for me using their discount.

£350ish all in from memory.

Can you PM me the details of your fitter - I had a quote from a guy in Mirfield for the above but it was £450 plus the new rear valance so £500+ :(

Cheers
