Post by: Ginge 35Edition on 10 April 2012, 19:39
If you had a couple of hundred quid burning a hole in your pocket what would you spend it on?

Had a look, not sure about it to be honest? Great concept though especially if it could give a G rating!

Already on the wish list are:-

Black gloss rear difusser
Black Roof Wrap
Forge engine bay mods (Carbon Tank, Washer Fluid and Oil/Water Caps - All Alloy)
Candy White Engine cover

On my last forum (with my roc) we had an ongoing 'in expensive mods' thread and threw up some great ideas.

Jesus wept...that is tragic.
That hideous kit would be better suited to a Saxo or Corsa.
Would anyone with a Golf GTI really fit that?

Thing to remember is that things go wrong even in standard form   At least with a remap you get to have some fun before they go wrong

Puddle/door lights are a good mod.

Also vinyl wrap front lip and mirrors gloss black looks great

The jack up pads and underbody aero parts are good mods which I have but not visually different but usefull

I did the fogs as turning lights and like it.

An ex-forum user had his rear valance painted grey like the front bumper insert and it looks great

look under the rear of the front seats. You will see a cutout in the metalwork for a light. Buy the front footwell lights from vw and wire them to the front ones.

Rs3 brake cooling there's a thread on mk5golfgto.co.UK under performance section iirc by a user call bruce.
I cannot post a direct link from this silly phone.

Thanks Snoopy.     I've just fitted LED interior lights   .  I don't know why they are not standard as they are so much better than the normal bulbs and the white light improves the overall look.    So rear footwell lights are now next on my list as they will look like they should have been their from day one in the cutouts.

My only concern is it is a shame the wire is not there as I cant face pulling up the carpet on my new car just yet.

Here is the link for RS3 brake cooling.  Not top of my list but interesting......

It's not pathetic, you're right to be wary of performance mods. 1. Invalidates warranty. 2. You will have problems and not be totally satisfied with the outcome [At least that's the overall impression I get from reading posts on here]

Post by: mkviken on 11 April 2012, 21:08
IMO a remap on the GTI makes the car so much more enjoyable and they aren't expensive for what you get.

I've not heard of any reliability issues caused by a remap on a mk 5 or 6

Most have a 7 day trial so you can test it and see if you like it.

^ I found yours a supple difference but an enjoyable one, very linear and smooth.
Will do mine one day just need to sort its gremlins out first.

Still interested in seeing some rolling road graphs when you are better.

So I presume you need
- The footwell lights
- LED bulbs
- Decent connectors and wire

Has anyone done this and got a list of parts and the best place to buy them from?  Also is there a neat way of running the wires without spoiling the car?   I want to find some neat connectors and plug them in - do these exsist?

If you goto that other mk5 forum in the for sale section do a search there's a guy in there that sells a complete plug and play kit. With ready built harness etc. Think he goes by Eddie it something like that. His thread should come up with a search for retro fit kits or something like that. If you want to see photos of them fitted have a look on that forums member page at montys tdi thread.

LED number plate lights. It brings your rear into the 21st century! I love mine and its a cheap and effective OEM type mod!

Now dont shoot me down, but has anyone added 'GTI' caliper decals? I think they would look good in white on the red, and if the R can have them why cant we...

Just cant seem to find anyone doing them?
