ok im slowly getting through my list of problems,and my next problem is my 16v sounds like a taxi its coming from exhaust manifold area i think,its a constant rattle noise.
any ideas people??? :smiley:

Sounds like the heat shield to me.

wouldnt be the heat shield would it?? have just had weeks of agnony tracking my 'rattle' issue to that little swine  :angry:
 if theres any movement in it it will rattle at low revs and drive you insane eventually  :evil: :grin:

can be easily clamped

Blowing manifold often sounds like a tick, could just be the gasket.

Will take it off and have look...do you need that warm air feed back to air box? Is it a cold start thing?

lost it years ago mate when i sold my 2.0l s capri (with sunroof)and brought a mk2 golf which lead to the mk3 golf and just like a good book cant put it down :laugh:

trying to remove heatshield are there hiding bolts? cant seem to able to remove it?

got heatshield off! crack in manifold :sad:anyone got one? cant find anything on the bay!!!!

It's cast steel so not easiest of jobs to do for someone who isn't experienced and has the proper gear. Buy another manifold, much quicker and easier.

I fixed my crack (ooh err) buy drilling a small hole each end of each crack (I had about 8 as the downpipe consistantly hits the floor.  :laugh:


Put the welder on full and had some special rods that someone on here advised and went for it. Ground the crack lengthways with a diamond cut of disc and then penetrated and welded hard then did one either side. Been absolutely fine!

you see, you see!!! do exactly what that man said, works a treat for me too, only I dont get on with my Arc welder like i do my mig welder so we dont work together often lol......
