Hi. My drivers window regulator has broken (cant find the problem in the search). The little piece inside the mechanism where the wire wraps round and round has snapped. No way of fixing it, and to make it worse the passenger side is getting stiff too, so that is probably on its way out...?! Anyway, i want to get two new ones, question is what to get?
1) ECP have Topran/WAHR regulators for about £13 each side brand new, but are they going to be flimsy crap?!
2) Two from a scrap car, whole regulator is £15 or so - but these are old and could also break anytime?
3) Upgrade to electric windows, again old though, and are the motors likely to break too? Plus, i cant find any on here. Dont need loom etc as i can make my own.
Suggestions/experience greatly appreciated :)
Thanks :)

3. Go electric. It's the future.
Motors are fine. They don't do a lot of work. It's the years of swarf and grease and dirt on the cables that gunk up the gear mechanism that make them fail.
If you get second hand ones. Take off the cover plate on the mechanism and give the gear wheel and worm gear a good clean. Get some degreaser down the wire guide tubes and generally clean the whole lot up. Then lube everything up.
Be fine for another 20 years.

No one tried the cheap ones from ECP?

Genuine only and stick with manual.
When mine failed, I bought a complete door off ebay for £10. Sold the mirror and the glass for £15, so a cheap fix.

I went from manual to electric - brill. Got the mech and motors off a guy called Pete Simpson from 'uddersfield a few years back his number was 07796 304790.
These were from the OE manufacturer just not stamped VW - mind you they were 140 the pair.

I bought a cheap euro's one a couple of years ago, perfectly good bit of kit, and not just for the money. It was so easy to do up and down after fitting it made the other old (perfectly fine) one seem stiff and horrible and inn need of replacing. I had a donor 16v car a while bk and robbed the elec windows as well as engine etc. Leccy windows ftw
