hi all, basicaly i was driving along last weekend and i had a splutter from my engine, oil pressire light started flashing etc, pulled over and stoped the car (didnt want to as engine was hot!), checked engine oil level and it was just under max on the dipstick, so thaught id get back in and drive home (2miles away).when i had started the car i got a big blue puff of smoke like a genie had come from the tailpipe lol, with this i thaught get home quick. by the time i got to my house the engine sounded like it was the old 1.4 ahw rattling away, sounded like the top end was running dry,the car was not smoking at this point.
I had to move the car to make room for my dad to pull on the driveway a few hours later, when i started the engine it was clearly smoking like mad!, turned it of straight away.
Been working all week and havent had time to inspect it any further until today, orderd myself a second hand turbo that i know works well, anyway i started striping the lump down ready for the arival of the replacement turbo, i got the TIP off and thaught this would be a good time to see how much free play was in the turbine shaft, to be honest there wasnt a great deal at all, 2-3mm at the most. i would deem it ok giving the milage and age of the engine. its coverd 172k with approx 5k on a stage 1 chip, car was serviced with plugs and fresh oil along with a new thermostat as she was overcooling on motorway runs.
What would you do at this stage as i dont know weather to take the turbo off anyway and have it replaced or weather to bolt evrything back up and drop the oil+replenish
Opinions and advise please, this is my dayly and im realy missing it :-(
Thans and sorry for the story book lol

Have you checked the oil pickup pipe?
-
didnt get that far, when i noticed how little free play there was i kinda stopped and went back to the drawing board,ie here lol

Have you checked the oil pickup pipe?
Agreed this or the oil pump could well be the fault.
-
never had one of these off before, dose the banjo bolt for oil feed to turbo have the filter in the banjo bolt on the turbo or on the block?
-
Doesnt sound to good to be honest mate.
-
apparently oil feed pipes are a common cause of failure, is this true dose any1 know?
-
as said i would check pick up pipe mate if top end as started rattling its because theres no oil being fed to it ie the pick up pipe is blocked in the sump and needs a clean or to be replaced this is what cost me a new engine
