Title: IS IT WORTH IT???
Post by: Fraiser on 29 September 2003, 16:03

I fouund a b reg m2 in pearlescent white- SPray job cost around 1500 quid- the lad has got the recipts etc. Full electrics including sunroof . original bbs alloys etc. it looks the biz- however i think the engine has gone. its an 8 valver.

i was thinking about buying it and getting a vr6 conversion. i cna get the car for around 200 pounds. as it is- does not have mot and tax- but it really is a good looking car. i know someone whio will do the conversion for around 1200 pounds - all in. What do you peeps reckon- if i do it anyione gonna buy it and what are they usually worth once done.

Get someone to go with you and check the car thoroughly, respray jobs are difficult and can be bodged.

To be honest m8 I would not bother. Put the ?1400 towards a decent mk4. The handling and ride is a lot better and it would be a lot less hassle. 8)

I think I would steer clear of it unless you know for sure the body is clean.  The new respray my very well be hiding a sh!te body. I got burned years back in a deal on a MKI that sounds very much the same. If you can go talk to the shop that did the respray and see if they remember the car. Does the 1200 for the conversion counting the engine? thats a good price on that. :) I am sure a MKII with a VR6 would fetch more than 1400 on the market. I see good looking MKII's going for that all the time in stock form.
