Can anybody suggest good european breakdown cover?
In August im going to be driving to Italy, through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland.
I have been browsing about on google but unsure who to go with. I would obviously like the option of having the car recovered back home if it breaks down.
I will be doing the journey in an Civic Type R EP3 which has never let me down, however i have never put 2500miles on it over 10days!
Thanks
Mike

Indeed. I have had my type r for the past 30,000 miles / 2.5years and it has nevered needed more than service parts and tyres. However sods law and all that! Plus the possibility of crashing etc.

I know they are good in England but i wasnt sure what there cover and response time was like in Europe?
-
can you not add breakdown cover to your insurance a day before you leave then cancel before the 14days you get to cancel

ADAC joining instructions are here:
http://www.northloop.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?1362-Track-breakdown-recovery-(ADAC)
And under £100 a year gives you pan-European recovery with no BS clauses about mileage and age of car, unlike the UK providers.
Oh and if you call them when you're broken down in the UK and the AA turn out for you.

Just a note to this thread, rules change in France at the end of June....
You will need a breathalyser and high viz vest as well as the bulbs and triangles, although only fully enforced from November its worth remembering.
Smart cookies will have two, as if one is produced and found faulty or used your journey will end there
I am half and half whether to cruise to the in-laws in June or catch the train, London to Avignon and back might be a bit far for the old tug
-
Yes i did see that you now need a breathaliser, however it says not inforced until November so do you need one from June? Who knows... A bit confusing.
The high vis and triangle etc i can sort out easy enough!
I am taking a Type R to Italy so im sure yours can make it to France. I only get 280miles to a tank!

I just did exactly the same journey in my R with a mate of mine driving a JDM teg Type R, i stayed in switz for a few days then went onto Milan and through to Maranello it was pretty epic!! cost me a few quid in fuel though and Switz is super expensive £7 for a pint etc etc
i went with AA which cost me £74, luckily i didnt need to use it but was well worth having for peace of mind.
you will have an AWESOME time
-
How much did u spend in fuel?

Me and the wife did a road trip around Germany, last August for our honeymoon in my 1996 golf gti.
Covered 2575 miles in 14 days.
I had AA cover which cost about £150, off the top my head it included:
-24 hour English speaking phone line
-Road side assistance with parts
-Tow to the nearest garage if it couldn't be fixed at roadside (with parts)
-if it couldn't be fixed in reasonable time or cost courtesy car provided to finish trip
-hotel accommodation if needed
-repatronising of vehicle back to my home address
Think that was the main points of the policy, think it was well worth the peace of mind even though we didn't need to use it.

Awesome. Out of interest how much did that cost you in fuel do you think?

They will have been on rivers - tough comparison to make work.

Just done my end of year books and Europe fuel receipts came to £315.
Hope this helps.
