Here is my GTI- Bought this just before Christmas on 90k miles and have done a bit of work on it to get it to how it looks now, lovely car to drive and was always a dream car of mine- I was 13 when this car was new!
- Weitec hicon GT coilovers lowered 40mm
- OEM VW anniversary exhaust system
- detailing work by Prestige Detail in Luton
- BBS alloys refurbed
How the car looked when I bought it:

Aftermarket Supersprint system replaced with OEM exhaust, as I do a lot of motorway driving and the droning was giving me a headache

Paintwork was seriously tree sap stained and in some need by serious TLC. Car was detailed by Prestige Detail in Luton who did an excellent job IMO

BBS alloys were shot to bits- but now given a full refurb in bright silver- next job is to repaint the brake calipers red.

Looking good matey. Just looks like you need those sides doing. Easy fix but new ones do cost about 30 quid each from vw.
-
Cheers- do you mean the plastic coating on the lower door sills? are these one piece? Looking forward to checking out the rest of the forum for some tips, namely painting the calipers and changing discs/pads which I hope isn't too difficult.
-
Looks really clean :afro:
Top sill trims are available from VW, painting calipers is easy Hammerite will do the trick.
-
Looks nice now Bud
-
Jealous....I hate insurance companies
Looks great, just the few little bits to finish it off now
-
I like it, looks pretty straight and good to see a lack of cheap tacky crap attached.
As mentioned, get those upper sill trims replaced before they completely crumble away.
-
looks good mate....cant beat a clean black gti
-
Very nice anni.
Did you have issues putting the red stripe on?
Ive still got to put mine on.
If i was you, i'd replace the 16v badge with the original and repaint the calipers.
Thats it ;)

There is a thread on here that debates whether the 16v Anni had the Red GTI badge on the grille or the Red 16v Badge. It turns out one lad on here has had his from new and it came with the Red 16v Badge so the one on this car is standard. Personally I think the Red GTI badge looks better but if the car is to be kept standard(ish) then the 16v badge is the one

wana swap with my 8v anniverysary in the best colour (mystic blue) on the market for the mk3 golfs?
-
That is one nice car
-
Nice one deano!!!!
Cant beleive hes had it since new!!!! Amazing.
Theres a guy buy me whos had a mk2 16v since new.....its oak green, beautiful.
He keeps it garaged and his civic type r on the road lol

His '16v' grill badge IS original.
The red stripe down the sides however, is not.

I agree mystic blue is the best colour- my first car was a MK3 1.4 SE in this colour, but I'll think I keep this one . There is a 16v mystic blue anniversary for sale in Norfolk but it is very overpriced for 160k miles and the interior has seen better days.
I quite like the 16v badge but the GTI one looks good too- I only noticed the difference when I was looking at pics of 8v models on google.
The red pin stripe on the sides is not original but I thought it would look better to match the bumper red stripes- It is almost like VW couldn't be bothered to pinstripe all the way round as the groove is there in the rubbing strip. To fit is quite easy- you have to be patient to get it in the groove straight, and make sure the plastic is clean and bone dry otherwise it will peel away easily.
-
I agree the pin stripe should have continued along the door rubbing strips from the factory.

Yeah upper sill trims. Doesn't take long. Just wash all the crap out and let them dry out first.
-
Are those the anni headlights? shouldnt they be smoked??? Mine are black inside???
Ruddy great paintwork on that its beaut!!!
-
If your headlights are smoked then they've been modified.
-
Black inside sounds like Joey modded lights. The standard lights are the same as all GTI's but IMO look better Joey'd.
-
Looking good
-
She's a beaut...
I like the VW Anni back box too
-
Thanks for the comments guys- since photos I have replaced the discs/pads all round and repainted the calipers- the rears were a right pain to change as the caliper holding bolts were seized and had to enlist help of garage with loosening them, :(
-
Two years today I bought this car so I thought I would update this thread to tell you how I've got on.
This Anni is my daily and have covered 35,000 miles in this time- car has been generally very well behaved and have starting swapping out old bits for new as they break!
So new bits all installed to make the running gear nice and sweet again and averaging 36mpg include
- Cambelt and water pump
- Clutch pedal as it snapped on me- luckily on a motorway
- Battery, dizzy cap, spark plugs
- Gasket seal
- Brembo discs and pads all round
Now for the interesting stuff :)
