Title: Golf Mk4 FRONT wiper motor change
Post by: dantheman6554 on 05 April 2012, 14:26
Anyone point me in the direction of a how to on this?   my wipers have stopped working, the motor just buzzes, they were working intermitently before,  then a guy at the car wash forced them down and they havent worked since,   should i be looking at the linkage aswell?

Linkage will probably be seized - which may have finished off your motor, you wont know until you get it apart.

I did this job a couple of weeks ago     The wiper mech is the easy part, the scuttle is the ball-ache job!
Its worth being aware that the scuttle comes off square (straight away) from the glass, ie doesn't pull down towards the engine bay.
The scuttle clips into a narrow plastic strip fixed across the bottom edge of the screen.  I very carefully used a flat blade screw driver to lever the scuttle off against this strip.  Once it started to go I ran my finger along under scuttle and it popped off no probs.
Refitting: Go to town cleaning the muck out the strip and soak it in WD40, should go back on OK.
After all that I managed to break it by dropping it putting it back on!

Hi guys, thanks rich for pointing me in the right direction!   already bought a seciond hand linkage and motor off ebay for £23 off a 2004 model, hopefully itll be ok!  its only got to last a month as the car is going and thought it would seriously de value it if the wipers didnt work,   ive printed out the guide just now and will attack it on the weekend!      cheers again all

helpful as always!
