Title: What is it with Audi drivers?
Post by: Cliff_944 on 03 April 2012, 15:47
Why do Audi drivers see my Golf and then want to cut me up? I did not have this in my last car. I just drove 200 miles to Dorset and had three Audi's driving very dangerously!  I'd not mind but their Audi's were low spec so did not have the power anyway! So I let them past and then cruise past when there was an appropriate bit of road!

It's Mercs that I have problems with. They toodle along at 45mph then accelerate hard to stop me getting past  Luckly the GTD seems to be quicker than a C220. Though I make sure the DSG and ACC are in sport first

A C250 is a definite no-no. They are just as fast a GTD. I was following one and we both over took another car. There was nothing in it.

Obviously all of this was done without exceeding 60mph.

Dorset you say Cliff, what part?

Anyways I find the exact opposite, regardless of the make of car people tend to see the VW badge or twins/grille badge and not get close...whether I'm in front or behind them, obviously your still get the boy racers every now and then but I tend to just  that them...

I get the same issues with vw drivers  when in the seat Leon. Its their insecurity that's the problem.

Doing 60 miles a day on the motorway I've noticed over recent years that Audi drivers have taken over from BMW drivers as the biggest tos**** on the road. They're all permanently stuck to someone's back bumper in the outside lane or permanently doing a gazillion miles per hour.

The worst ones seem to be the ones with the LED front running lights - I assume because they're the more up spec, faster ones?

This is what I don't understand with people who have these top spec cars, why wud you intensional cut people up, try and drive in there boot ect ect...I mean you know you've got a high spec'd car the people around know you got a high spec'd car so what's the point in trying to prove it...

Totally agree with Snoopy.....it screams insecurity!

I think its mostly just company car drivers as it isn't their fuel they are burning or car if they have a crash.

I had a 2001 S3 when Audis were deeply uncool...now you must have a brace of S-Lines parked on the driveway to be part of suburbias 'Best Dressed Driveway' competition, and must drive like a bell-end...so for this reason, I will never something with 4 rings on the grille until the plebs/lemmings start buying something else.

I may even consider a 3 Series BMW next...they seem uncool with Johnny Knobhead and his mates....at long last.

To be honest...current Aldis look a little 'Sale rack in Ratners window' to me, with all their chintzy bling. Yeuch...not for me.

Agreed, the c*cks have moved from BMW's to Audi's and I have the same problem on the M1 everyday with Audi, low-spec Merc's and Seat drivers
C*CKS !

The bog-standard Audi's (diesealsel company cars) are crap, I even had an A1 'trying it on' the other day, do these peeps have no sense..!?
Merc drivers are simply snobbish
Beemer drivers range from snobbish to good, depending on their vehicle and how they feel when they see our 'striking' cars
Ranger's...........oh dear, either very good or very bad !

I disagree, I'm not a fan of BMW's styling whatsoever. But, each to their own of course, because if everyone liked the same car, there would only be one manufacturer. After my last 2 VAG cars though, I may well consider a BMW next. I certainly won't like it like I would an Audi or VW but if it works, and has less problems, then who cares
Title: Re: What is it with Audi drivers?
Post by: R32UK on 04 April 2012, 09:03
I agree not all people like the styling but if you compare quality of say the 3 series to the a4.. the 3 series is miles ahead. 5 compared to the a6... i think the sales figues speak for themselves! 7 compared to the a8.. the audi doesnt even come close in any of them :lipsrsealed:

you get what you pay for, but with audi unlike any other brand you actually get a vw/skoda/seat with a premium to pay for your troubles and pi$$ poor service from dealers.

I've noticed over recent years that Audi drivers have taken over from BMW drivers as the biggest tos**** on the road.

+1, I think the owners of Beemers have moved to Audi. Funny never had anyone that I can remember try it on when I had my MK6 but since having the ED35 it appears to be fair game for a few drivers of Audi's, Merc's, Civic Type R's, Focus RS and Polo GTI's. Just let them get on with it

I just can't leave the VAG switchgear, its top!

Sit in a3 series or even an Alpina D3 (My other serious alternative to the GTD) and I just thought the dashboard and steering wheel was made of the same plastic those horrible stacking chairs are made from. yuk

Having owned a B6 Audi I thought it was very good with brakes, but maybe the new ones have cut too many corners and they struggle to stop.  Or your driving too slow, one of the two.

Title: Re: What is it with Audi drivers?
Post by: PenguinGTI on 04 April 2012, 13:50
I'd buy an Audi over a BMW because I prefer the styling, the quality and because I prefer FWD/ AWD over RWD. To be honest I really don't give a toss what people think of me if I buy a certain make or model. If I like a car then whatever someone else thinks of it doesn't even enter into my consideration.

As for Audi drivers being wide, it's not just restricted to Audi. Plenty of BMW and Mercedes drivers seem to like hassling the GTI. They are all rep-mobiles. With BMW's, this means it's ether a 18d, 20d or 25d (if the older 5 series) all of which are no problem at all . The Mercedes models are usually the 220 or 250 models, again neither of which are too much trouble.

The difference is that other hot hatch drivers generally want a bit of "fun". Being hot hatch drivers, we all in some manner share a passion for performance, and inevitably we are going to want to entertain that passion amongst ourselves. I'm not condoning racing on public roads, but simply distinguishing the mindset of the Type R driver from that of the Audi A4 20TDI or BMW 320d driver. The rep-mobile drivers have a tendency to consider themselves genetically superior to all other motorists - and therefore vastly more important - so their expectation is that nothing can or will challenge their authority on the road. Proving them wrong can be fun  With hot hatch drivers though (even VXR drivers) I've always found that its just a bit of fun that the driver is after, rather than a demonstration of genetic superiority.

I agree Penguin. The Audis (or, like Gilly, I shall start calling them Aldis cos i seems somehow appropriate) I see everyday on the A1/M62 are predominantly A3 or A4 TDis. Dull with a capital D but they seem to think they are superior in their middle management rep-mobile. if they'd been driving in the 80s they would have been driving a Sierra - the A4 is just the modern day equivalent.

I've also said before we recently test drove one of the last A4 Convertibles at a Yorkshire Aldi dealer. It was a 2.0 TDi (I need to get a diseasal for the mileage I do) and it was so bland and forgettable it was untrue. It didn't inspire me one iota. The wife thought it was ok but the salesman seemed genuinely shocked when I told him and the wife we wouldn't be buying such a bland piece of overpriced rubbish.

The other thing I hate about Aldis is that they all look the chuffing same. Can anyone spot the difference between a 5 door A5 and an A7 for example?

Swift you say, I know them very well I had two before going the VAG route, I had the 1.5 models a 56 & 58 but always thort i was missing something, I p/x'd the 58 when ordering the GTD and the salesman was very honest he said I cud get £6500 privately or p/x for £4500, I p/x'd it as I couldn't be bothered to sell privately, while'st waiting for the GTD I saw the swift up for sale at £7K and reduced to £6500 and then finally sold just before Xmas for £6K...

I still see the 56 plate swift driving about but haven't come across the black one yet!

Our neighbour's got a white A1. It's horrendous. It looks like a giant blancmange on wheels.

I would genuinely rather walk that be seen in one of those - you have the double whammy of being seen in such an ugly car plus the fact that everyone thinks you're a c**k cos it's an Aldi!

It really does depend what you're driving as to how others treat you.  The wife has a mk6 GTI and I have a TTS, so I think I can see both sides of this.  INMO they are both great cars that have different appeal.  What I would say is that, whatever some might say, the TTS is a fantastic place to sit and the general build quality is superb.  The GTI is just as good, in its own way, but you can't really compare them.

So my take on it is that, when I'm in the TTS, it's chavved-up Mk3 and Mk4 GTI's that want to have poke - usually driven by kids and usually fitted with crappy after-market xenon’s blinding everyone in sight.  The next worst are definitely Beemers - why is that 3 series D's always want to try and get you to race them???  When I'm in the GTI, I find most people leave me alone but that may be because it's metallic grey, whereas the TTS is red.  I reckon bright colours just attract muppets and if you're driving a decent car as well they want to have a go.

Bottom line is, every type of car has its fair share of idiots!

3 out of 10? As many as that?

It looks like they have tried to used the stickers to detract from the badly colour matched rear quarter. I know paintwork on modern cars is pretty shoddy these days, but that looks something else.

Definitely agree. Audi's, Mercs and the occasional Jag's always enjoy driving stuck to your bumper. But to be fair so do VW Passats. I think most of these cars are company cars and as such is why they drive so dangerously. It's always fun to look in your rear view mirror to see an audi drivers head because hes so close to the back of your car.

I still personally think that white van men are the worst though! Had one hurtling up behind me at 3x the speed of light the other day. Makes me angry

So the moral is to buy a dull colour and no one bothers you...

I started this thread as I was suprised and horified at how badly at few Audi drivers drive their cars, a new experience to me.  For the record I don't dislike Audi's.  Infact:-
- 1980's Audi Quattro = respect
- RS8= respect
- TTRS = respect
- BMW M3 = respect
- Porsche 911 = respect
- decent VDubs = respect
- any good driver = respect

Rubish drivers in any of the following
- White vans
- reps in low spec Audi's
- reps in low spec BM's or Merc's
- boy racers in pimped Vauxhalls
- Seat drivers who wished they'd bought VDubs
- anyone who does not own their car or wished they owned a better car, so drive like a looney...

All I want to say is.....

'Life is not a destination but a journey, so enjoy the ride'...

Wouldn't agree with that. That's a whole separate can of worms you've opened there.

For the most part I really like SEAT models. The new Ibiza is much better looking than the Audi A1 for example. The Leon is also a very good looking car for those who want something just a bit different from a standard Golf. Yep I must admit that much of SEAT's substance comes from VW spare parts bins but I think it's a bit far to say that all SEAT drivers wish they had VW's. If the Leon Cupra offered DSG at the time I was buying my MK6 GTI then I'd have been more than tempted.

OK.  I was not trying to do a 'topgear cool wall' but some drivers are swept along my their machines and therefore drive a bit faster than the rest?  So if I saw a Porsche GT2 in my rear view mirror, I'm going to let him pass.

I did not mean all seat owners.  Seat Leon FR+ Supercopa (at 22,500K) = respect...

So if you saw a 1.0 Nissan Micra storming up behind you in lane 3 when lane 2 was clear, and him overtaking you would have made no differene whatsoever to how you were going merrily about your business. you'd hinder his progress?

If someone want's to drive like a tw@, whatever they are in, I let them go. The sooner they get further away from me, the less likely I am likely to be involved in their inevitable accident.

Agreed - Dont you hate those people who sit in the wrong lane on the motorway.  I always move in.  There should be a law against it!

Anyone who likes what they have = respect.

Anyone who doesn't like what they have simply didn't do their homework before choosing.

I passed an A4 TDI repmobile this morning on the M62. Amazingly, it was in the inside lane going quite slowly. I was that gobsmacked it was there I nearly crashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw a black A4 SE stationary on the hard shoulder of the M42 two days ago parked very niceley behind a white van, the Audi was sporting some rather spectacular red and blue lights in the back window.

Number Plate 'ML60' didn't spot the rest, was a few lanes away.

Almost all drivers are pretty good.  It's the uninsured shortarse boys with their small heads, baseball caps and beady eyes that can't drive very well.  They could be in any brand of car (often VW's round here).

I have to say that SAAB drivers tend to be the most arrogant out of all drivers and as previously stated the vxr corsa group seem to thack the little 1.6 to the max. Thats around my area newayz.

Used to love it when dad had his old s4 4.2 v8 with sports cat and miltek was stealth until you made the exhaust note step up loved the faces on the little scrotums :D

According to that nice Mr Clarkson on Top Gear, Saab owners are better educated than any drivers of any other make, they are also the most contented, so maybe they are just smug, not arrogant.

Audi drivers I agree,in Bolton, the Audi garage is part of the same complex as VW.I had popped in to sign a fixed price service deal and on my way out was a white A3 right up my ar8e.The  lights turned to red and I naturally stopped. The pr1ck started beeping his horn and indicating I should of gone through.I wouldn't care but even if I had sneaked through,he wouldn't have got through legally. One time I would have given him grief but nowadays it's best to just laugh your head of at these idiots. It annoys them more.

I've had two Saabs and the wife still has her 93 convertible. We are neither smug (because they're fairly average cars) nor arrogant (we have nothing to be arrogant about for the previously stated reason). I would quite like to think I'm intelligent though (I have two degrees from the late 80s/early 90s when they were worth the paper they were written on). Clarkson was saying that Saabs were driven by architects and more cerebral types (my university tutor had an old 99, for example) and you generally don't find Saab drivers stuck a foot from your rear bumper like you do with Audis.
The thing I liked about them was that they were a bit individual, not just another German clone. I know the German cars were better technically, I just liked the style of Saabs. I still think it's a great shame they went under and will be replaced by just more Audis that all look exactly the same.

Just been to France for a week and the only idiots on the roads were two Audi drivers (A4 Avants) storming up behind me with their lights flashing, probably shouting 'Get out my way you Ros Beef's'.

The ED35 got a lot of admiring looks from other drivers and thumbs up
