Long story, but I've just fitted a reconditioned gearbox (with warranty), put everything back together by the book but the starter motor now isn't kicking in and when I move the ignition to point 3 I get the full beam light on the dash lighting up.
Now, I've tested the starter motor back off the car and that works fine, the new gearbox is earthed and the alternator wired correctly but I suspect there is either a bad earth or a short somewhere.
One thing I'll point out is that the gearbox centre painted the box for me, so I'm trying to figure out if the box is earthed in any other way related to the starter motor.
Can anyone shed any light on this mystery?!!!

Do you get a spark?
Start with basics trace it back to coil and my suspecting the coil ignition wires are wrong somehow!
Plus simple mistakes are the HT leads in wrong, or make sure king lead is on firm. Touch all HT leads you will know if there is a break :laugh:

Cheers Jay. Turned out to be the earth point from the gearbox to the inner wing that wasn't a good connection. All fixed now after several days head scratching!

Thats why we double the earth point to the gearbox :wink:
