Title: asr will not go off

hello, ive got a 2001/51 1.8 gti t 20v aum engine and the asr will not go off, i have tried holding it down down for 10 seconds or more and it still does nothing, the fuse is fine and i have even had a mate do a diagnostic check for fault codes but it came up clean. Its defo on because when i floor it the wheels grip like f*ck....now can some give me some advice please because i wanna smell that rubber  :evil:

This happened to me when my MAF failed. Although I did get a code too.
